Gobsmacked!

I truly am gobsmacked! I've just got off the phone to my sister in law. She told me she knows that I don't have RA (in spite of my being diagnosed six years ago with sero positive RA.) The reason she knows this is because she knows other people with RA and they don't have deformed joints, they don't walk with sticks or wear splints like I do, also they have remissions and I don't.
So I asked her what it is I do have then. She replied "I don't know, I'm not a doctor". Hah!

Good grief ; aren't families just fantastic ?! I suffer similar from my aunt , her stock phrase being , " well , I'm nearly 90 and I still manage to get around , you're just a bit lazy . " ! I just smile and compliment her on both her good health and vast extensive knowledge ! Jillyb

me to just because im not seen as anything other than slower in my pace of everything i do, i do wear the splints so helpful, but if they could just spend one day with the pain we constantly endure (and wish for one pain free day) maybe then they wouldnt be so hasty to judge sending gentle hugs(((()))))

Oh goodness, what a horrid phone call to get. Your poor thing! Gentle hugs being sent your way! There's nothing worse than other people advising you, diagnosing you, putting down your professional diagnosis and just generally sticking their nose in where it's not wanted. Chin up and let it slide like water off a duck's back. I know it's hard though.

    xx

Hi everyone. Thanks for the lovely messages. I think in my sister in laws case , she just doesn't think before she opens her mouth. A couple of years ago, after a paticularly long and bad flare, which left me with deformed hands and needing sticks. I saw her, not having seen her for a while, and the first words she said were "Urgh! look at your hands!" As if I wasn't self conscious enough! I just said "yes I see them every day, and feel the pain in them". She said "It must be awful, it's making you old before yoir time". Arrgh!
Any way I'm off to see the rheumatologist now. Such joy. Numpty

Oh poor you. How would she know?

I have lovely hands, not one bent joint or ounce of pain, but I still have R.A. and you can't see my plastic hip unless you have x ray vision.

    Obviously she has a problem.....

    Hi,
My eldest daughter is an expert!!!! I used to get really stupid remarks like for example..."Nanna wasn't like you" My Mum didn't have arthur.

Now I just get tuts...I just totally ignore these.I don't care any more what she thinks or for the tuts.We know we are in pain why should we have to prove it to anybody....as for your SIL I would just totally ignore anything she says. When did she qualify?

    You take care May
