I get adcal-d3 on repeat prescription from my gp, they are dissolvable and taste quite nice, I am surprised that your gp does not give you these for your calcium and vitamin d, ask you gp for them.

I know those things are available, and she may well do if I asked but currently I am quite happy with my cheap-as-chips high-strength calc and vitD chalky tablets: 2 every day after lunch for a dessert, and a year's supply is about £18. I know they are not to everyone's taste but they go down OK with a glass of water or a cuppa. I hope you are feeling as well as you can, silverbirch, and that the cold is not affecting you too much - it's trying to snow here! DD

    Hi SB,

I have Calcichew D3 Forte on prescription too. I did have to have a blood test first to check my calcium levels and they were low.

From what I understand too much calcium in your blood stream is not good as it can fir up your arteries so the levels must be checked.

My Rheumy organised my blood test.

    Good idea SB :D

I'd be interested to know what she says, especially if I've written wrong information for all to read.

I have just been prescibed Ergocalciferol for 8 weeks for my low vit D levels. After 8 weeks I have to have my blood levels checked again, then I will be prescribed either Calcichew or Adcal to maintain the levels.

So they obviously have to check the levels if prescribing the tablets. I wonder if the calcium helps the body absorb the vit D???

It's the other way around Suzy. The Vit D aids calcium absorbtion in the gut.
