Sooo frustrating that people don't understand how much pain you are constantly in with ARTHRITIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because im only 42 years old, no one thinks i can be that bad!!!!
I can see it on peoples faces when i talk to them that they're thinking, what is she on about, she looks ok to me!!!!!!!
It drives me nuts and makes me sooo frustrated!!!
Does anyone else feel the same?????
What can i say to people to make them realise?????

Don't let them get you down. I know it's frustrating, but you have enough to contend with. At least the people on this forum understand. Warm wishes, Numpty0

This crops up time and time again and I think that there is little you can say. People don't understand how tiring constant pain can be unless they have something similar. For them pain is something that occurs every now and again so you take pain relief and it goes (which must be lovely). For most of us it's something entirely different. I rarely bother explaining it now, those who know me can see it in my face when times are rougher than usual and for those who don't, well, they don't need to know. People react in ignorance (not stupidity) and if they want to learn more I tell 'em (using the analogy of toothache in my joints) but if they don't I leave it alone. I guess I too look OK (if you ignore the crutches or the rollator). Don't let it get you down - I remember that once upon a long time ago I knew nothing of constant pain and I wonder how many silly things I said to those who were experiencing it! I wish you well. Thanks dreamdaisy! The analogy of toothache in your joints is a good one, i will definitely be using that in the future!
I have stopped mentioning my pain to my immediate family as i think they were getting fed of hearing me go on about it!!! The only problem with that is, I think they think when i dont mention my pain, it means i dont have any, so they think im ok! I can't win, lol!!
Well, i do feel better having had a moan on here so thanks for the support ;o)LOVE EMMA X0 -

Hi emsjane, I get it alot! I'm 38yrs old And when I go out and park in a disabled parking bay the looks I get from the blue rinse brigade is unbelievable! My OH says if looks could kill! And the ones who do come and question me are very nasty, they ask why are you in a wheelchair, and as soon as I say Osteoporosis it's 'your to young to have that!' and the one on the last cruise had the nerve to say 'you can't have that your to young, you must be just putting it on to claim benefits!' I just went back to our seats and cried my eyes out, how can someone be so cruel as to say that . I pointed her out to my OH so if she ever came back to asult me again he could give her what for even typing this I'm getting upset. I'm not blaming all the older people, but I never seem to have any problems with younger people, it always seems to be the blue rinse brigade!0

Agree with bubbadog , usually the oldies that are so spiteful ; being old myself ( 56 ) , I don't get so much abuse but when first afflicted at the grand old age of 25 ; I was scared to go out as I seemed to get abused by every fit , healthy elderly person in sight ! Guess there is an advantage in getting older after all ! Jillyb0

That is terrible Bubbadog!! I hope i never get spoken to like that!!! I am inclined to give people a mouthful when i feel it is just!!
I was very humbled walking around Sainsburys this morning. There was an old man, who was dragging his foot along with a crutch an, leaning on his trolley and wearing slippers and he looked a little scruffy. I walked past him and then saw him again a minute later sitting on a pile of cans resting. I walked up to him to ask him if he was ok and did he need any help and when he looked at me i could see he had, probably cataracts, also. Then he said to me, im ok thanks, ive just got a sore hand at the moment and he showed me his hand and his middle knuckle of his middle fingers was massively swollen with arthritis and he said it had only come up recently and that he was having trouble holding his crutch!!!!!! He had a little chat and then i went on my way. It gave me a good kick up the backside and made me stop feeling so sorry for myself. He was such a lovely friendly man too!!!!!!LOVE EMMA X0 -
Hileena my lovely, you are spot on. Young neighbour, very flash and swish with a penchant for red stilletos was vaguely enquiring about how I was and when I said 'It feels like having toothache in your joints' replied 'Well, go and see the dentist then.' I don't think she was listening too hard! DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thanks DD

Hi Emsjane
this is one of the best places because on here people really DO 'get it'
No-one gets too bored with us 'moaning' if we need to, (saves nearest and dearest from feeling powerless too which l think is part of their problem). there is always someone here with a hug for you.
One from me () and ignore 'em
Love

Awwwwh, thanks Toni!!! It's really nice to know that i have somewhere to come and let off steam to people who really understand. You are right about partners feeling powerless, my poor man has to listen to me moaning about my aches and pains!!! ;o/LOVE EMMA X0
