    carol,

Don't know how cold it is in your neck of the woods but if it's anything like Kent at the moment I'd shove the stuff outside in the snow/ice. Probably be colder than your freezer and you won't have to pay for the 'leccy!

When you get a new one make sure you've enough ventilation space around it. We were caught out last year and one we ordered had to go back, despite us asking the customer advice line to check for us. If the gap's not big enough around the applicance the guarantee may not be valid.

    Enjoy that shopping.

oh dear carol, not good news when you are told non repairable.
I hope your new one turns up quickly and that the stuff in your other freezer doesn't spoil.

Dellboy has a point there. Also, you should pull your fridge freezer out once or twice a year and clean and vacuum at the back. A lot of dust mounts up and once it's cleaned the freezer works much better. It's amazing how many people are surprised how dirty it gets when it's moved.
