RHEUMY APPOINTMENT....

Hi all
Had my first rheumy appointment yesterday and to say he was thorough is an understatement, feel like i've been run over by a bus this morning
Anyway, he thinks I have spondyloarthritis with fibro as a secondary condition. I had an xray on my sacroilliac joints which showed extensive inflammation and my spine at the bottom is quite bent (I knew there was a problem when the nurse doing the xray kept moving me about and eventually had to move the xray table, I asked her if there was a problem and she said she couldn't get me straight ) Anyway I have got to have an mri scan now (full body) and then go back to see my rheumy on 10th May. He has given me 2 months supply of diclofenac and omeprozole to take along side my codeine and amatriptalyne. Feel like I'm getting somewhere now and it's not all in my head!! x Dee x

That sounds like an excellent appointment, deedeeitsme. No-one wants any form of arthritis but, if you have it, it’s best diagnosed as soon as possible. Your team sounds to be on the ball. Let’s know how you get on.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi everyone
No I can't fault the rheumy appointment at all. It's bad though when you have to literally hijack the gp before they will do any furthur investigations. I had to beg for blood test and she gave in eventually, these all came back ok but I knew there was something wrong, you are not in this much pain for nothing so I persisted. I went to the gp about every 2 weeks with different areas in pain and she eventually diagnosed fibromyalgia and told me to GOOGLE it. I did and it said you have pain, the feeling of swelling but no actual visible swelling, well, I had very visible swelling in my knees and hips so I took myself back to my gp again, showed her the swelling and she said "oh yes, it's just the fibro" I said but "fibro does not cause swelling, can you send me for xrays" gp said "xrays would not be beneficial as they don't always show inflammation" so I asked her where we go from here, she looked at the computer a while then said she didn't know what else she could do so I actually refused to move until she came up with something to help me. She got the message eventually when she realised I really was not moving and said she would refer me to a rheumatologist. RESULT
and as above, xrays showed extensive inflammation and he is going to send me for an mri scan to look at everywhere else because of my widespread pain.
You know your body, you know when things are not right so please listen to it and be insistant and "hijack" your gp if you have to. Make them listen!!!
