Hi all,

Last night i suffered with awful jaw pain kept me awake most of the night.
It did ease this morning after taking the naproxen.
I had a physio appointment today and mentioned it to the physiotherapist and he said it was common with psoriatic arthritis.
It got loads worse this afternoon so painful it was making me feel sick.
the pain is mainly down by my chin and radiates to my ear, all my teeth on that side of my mouth top and bottom are extreamly sensitive.
i decided to go to see my Gp and she told me she has never heard or psoriatic arthritis effecting the jaw and that is probably dental.
She prescribed me codeine which has took the edge off of the pain but still really painful. She also prescribed me amoxicillin and told me to make a dentist appointment.
I just dont know what to think as im being told two different things from two different professionals.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

hi Darwin im recently diagnosed with RA,, i recently had a 2 day flare up in my right side jaw, but were the jaw is hinged ie on the joint, if ur having pain across teeth on one side i would be more inclined to think dental, toothache or abcess or gum infection etc , hope the antibiotics work for you

    Hi Darwin,

Please make an appointment with your dentist. I had terrible jaw pain-dr tested me for mumps first! I have OA in my jaw and get terrible pain everywhere around my jaw, teeth and neck. I would get it checked out and if your dentist has no idea what it could be, then ask to be referred to a maxillofacial specialist.
I have sero-neg arthritis and temperomandibular joint dysfunction-also fibro. All, I think, have contributed to me developing the OA in my jaw.
If you want to chat/ask questions about anything, you can pm me if you want?

Heat works for me-and resting my jaw. I eat soft food and limit how much I talk (well, I try!).

Take care and please let us know how you get on-I know how painful it is so I hope you get some relief soon.

    Hi Magenta,Dazztee

    Thanks for your replies.
I have made an appointment with the dentist for monday morning.
Still in so much pain, heat does seem to be helping a little.

Hi Mate some GPs havent got a clue when it comes to RA and PA i was told jaw pain was quite common by the rheumy but you done the right thing getting it checked out. Over the years i have suffered awful with the same type of pain as you caused by RA and PA i have RA in my voice box and it effects my jaw ear and throat. But you should talk to the rheumy or rheumy nurse.

    Hi Darwin

Jaw pain is common with arthritis. I've had jaw pain for a few years and was recommended a soft diet but sometimes even soft food aggrevates it.

I know how you feel and want to send you a hug and hope it improves soon for you.

    xx
