Advice on back supports please

I have arthritis of lower spine and also osteoporosis I am sixty five years old female. I try to keep active and walking actually helps. My problem is that I have to be extremely careful when I bend or get up as my back is prone to going into spasm. Wearing thick black tights actually helps to support me but I am going to Spain in April and need to buy something which will give me some support but not too rigid. Any ideas what I could purchase. Thanks.

Hello again mbk. I think we may have got our wires crossed  . I meant that you should post this on the 'Living With Arthritis' forum, not the 'Say Hello' one. 'Living With Arthritis' and 'Chit Chat' are where most people hang out. Third time lucky? If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

hi yes tights would be to much in the warm not sure i can help much but there are some back suports in £1 shops might be worth giving them ago as will not break the bank if no good or an old fashioned corset ???? valval0

Could you cut the tights, so you still have the support, but are cool? It may be the cheapest option. You can get back supports from chemists, they are bulky though.0

Hi MBK,
Welcome to the forum from me cus i am late
I have extensive 3rd and 4th in the spine and neck as well as spondy and yep the spasm is a problem.
For mine I have a lot of pain clinic intervention and thats helped though nothing cures it does it? Its horrible as well cus it can catch and spasm at anytime and for me when it does it I have to sit and sit fast else I just go down.
Mine also shoot through the spine and round the bottom couple of ribs as if I am being cut in half.
I have tried load of different back supports..... None of hem do much more than mildly help but the better ones for me have been ones from the physio book. They stay in shape better and don;t ride up etc as the supermarket ones can.
If you have a walk in physio dept it might be worth seeing if they will see you and recommend something? Mine certainly did but now it has gone beyond that ones reach they are talking of making me a special one to take the weight off the lumber.
The rumo cancelled it till he has done a full review of the spine again..... He should do that wednesday but he doesn;t like supports so I may not have one after all.
The ones from the physio are up to 40 quid but mine is a 24 pound one and does work better than the other thing I have tried.
Hope you find something and also enjoy Spain. Nice to meet you. Cris x0
