People never cease to amaze me. I was out with my daughters shopping yesterday. By the end of it I had to use my stick as my back and hips were on fire. We were waiting for a bus to go home, and as I couldn't stand in the queue I took note of who was there before me (it's a bus station so people don't queue anyway) and when the bus came I stood up and took my place behind the woman who was in front of me. This couple turned up, mid 60s, and the woman was determined she was going in front of me. I was leaning heavily on my stick and she noticed. Know what she did? Put her foot out and tried to knock it out from under me!!!!! When that didn't work she tried to use her knee to do the same! I was utterly flabbergasted. Her husband saw what she was doing and hung back so I got on the bus first and when she got on she glared at me, presumable for taking the front seats (not even disabled ones).

Have people really become this nasty???

That is beyond awful and I'm so sorry this happened to you. I was really quite shocked reading that. I know there are selfish people out there but that takes the biscuit.

Did you say anything? I know I would have had a few choice words for her!

Again, so sorry you came across this horrible person. I feel sorry for people lacking so much in compassion and basic human decency. You keep your chip up. xx

Hi, no I was so taken aback that I didn't say anything to her but I did say to my daughter 'oh my God, did you see what she did?' I told her and she did say loudly ' how rude, you should have whacked her with it', lol...oh the enthusiasm of youth! The woman actually stood and tried to stare me down, it was ridiculous...like a chavvy teenager.

    purpleunicorn, that's terrible!

Unfortunately some people do seem to subject others to bad manners when under stress, for whatever reason. Before I got my wonderful powerchair I tended to move quite slowly and uncertainly when out and about, and a few fellow pedestrians didn't appreciate this. Often people would brush against me as they rushed past and I'd end up in the gutter. And once a couple of suits muttered, 'Drinking at lunchtime, tut tut', although I haven’t been allowed alcohol since 2004 because of the meds.

Really hope you don't go through this again,
    Phoebe

    Hi purpleunicorn,

What was wrong with her... such a bad way to behave! Glad she didn't knock the stick out from under you but hell I am amazed at her rudeness and selfishness and don;t get what she did it for.

Unfortunately there are folks who think being older gives them a fast track in ques and such like and well done for not backing down.

I rally hope it was a one off for you though. Cris x

Hi Purple, that is disgusting. I have also had the stick attack, why do they think they should be able to behave like that and get away with it.
Well done for sticking your ground.

    Take care hun.xx

    Hi all

I think her only thought was 'I'm older than her and therefore am entitled to get on the bus first'. If it wasn't so shocking it would have been comical, the way she kept sliding her foot forward to try and block me, and then trying to dislodge my stick!

Ordinarily I would have just let her get on with it but I had reached my limit...I have noticed that when I am out, or doing stuff in the house I get a few warning signs and if I ignore them then my body literally makes me stop. I physically couldn't stand without my stick so no way was I standing on a 30 minute bus journey. I wish now I had put the stick on her foot and leaned on it!

I'm also fairly new to using a stick, and still feel self conscious about it, so specimens like her do knock my confidence with it.

Oh well, for every one nasty person there are many more nice ones (well that's what I'm hoping anyway!)

Have a nice day all :D

I'm so sorry that you've had that experience. I've had older people glaring at me but also holding doors open for me and shuffling up on benches so I can sit down. I joke with them about it as I should be doing it for them like I used to and still do if I'm up to it or have a hand free.

it a bit like the young not all are good or bad but it always those who cause trouble that you notice she is a bad tempered ignorant person who should be ashamed of her self but you should be proud of how you handled the matter but i do wish you had put your stick on her foot lol val

Next time  you could try falling into her, elbow first and grabbing some tender bit to steady yourself.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hi
Dont know if you have noticed but it does seem to be mainly elderly people who are bad mannered, or has in your case downright nasty.
I am 61 and the amount of young people that let me go before them , or even offer an helping hand.
I have promised myself never to get like that...whatever age I am..
    Love
