Hi i am doing an awareness week 14- 19th of may at my local library with the friends group. I am doing the opening speech. It had started off as a day but the library have allowed me to extend things. I am having one to one tutoring starting Thursday in a church. A friend is with me for support and will be at the back to listen. Has anyone tips on speech writing. I know i will get help. he wants me to do a draft to judge it so i have to get writing quick. thanks joanne

I can't help at distance with the writing thing, but I can give you some tips on the delivery of said speech.
1. When introducing yourself keep your head up and move your gaze slowly round the audience so that eye-contact is made with as many people as possible - this helps everyone feel 'included' and helps you to settle in with them.
2. Keep the points in your speech succinct (not brief).
3. When reading from your speech do NOT read too fast - slower is better as that gives time for you words to be heard by those at the back. Again keep your head up as much as you can.
4. Don't shout to be heard - if anything drop the pitch of your voice as that will make it better on the ears of the listeners. If you can 'throw' your voice then do, but if not keeping a smaller volume will encourage the audience to be quiet themselves!
I hope this helps. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0 -

Hi Joanne,
Hey good to see you
I haven't done a speech but have done some 'talk' for WI's and Social Club groups.....
for me the first word and sentence were hard.... Once they were out it got a lot easier.
I didn't use notes as it was and hours talk about something I know about and believe passionately in so it could come fro my head.
It would have been better maybe if I had used cards to just remind me but it would have looked odd.
Good luck my friend and YOU CAN DO IT! Love and ((((( ))))) Cris xx0 -
Joanne,
l think, having read the replies you have had, that you CAN do this from the heart and you DO know what you'd like to say.
You write poetry too so know 'words'
So in my opinion you should just get something down on paper and run it by your friend. If he has experince more of giving talks - let him fine tune it for you.
You will be fantastic!
Love
