Hi Mig,
they tend to look at you eyes, do a few light changes and then take a picture of it before they do the letters test thing.
Its what they do with me anyway and don't worry it doesn't hurt though the puff f air to test the eye pressure is the worst bit.
What time you gong and will be in your pocket. Cris x0 -
It's basically for colour-blindness, mig tho', when I went on it for the first time, many, many moons ago, I did have to go to the eye dept and they were quite thorough. For the last 10 years or so my rheumatologist just had a book of colour blind dot tests which he flipped through whenever I went. (He complained bitterly when they repainted the corridors pink and green!) My current rheumatologist hasn't bothered in about 3 years.
Hope the pill reduction's going as well as possible. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Mig,
Will be in your pocket flower and it will all come together for you so hang in there. (((( )))) Cris xx0 -
Just a note of caution here, plaquenil toxicity is more likely to occur the longer you have been on the med, as it accumulates in the body. Therfore the regular sight tests are important, rheumys can tend to become complacent over this as damage is rare.
However, I do know of a couple of cases, one lady has had to register as vision impaired, the damage is severe and irreversible.
Please remember to have your yearly eye test, as patients we have to be our own advocates sometimes.0 -
Hi mig
I hope your appointment is going well as now you should be there.
They just tested me for colour blindness mainly and made me look at a yellow card with squares on it and a red dot.

Well had eye test, firstly standard look at letters then had to have drops in to dilate pupils ,had to have two lots as it didnt work the first time.then had wires attached to head and very fine wires under lower eye lid (inside)after that it was about 20 minuets to calibrate the machine for me.had to sit with nose nearly touching screen and watch a stationary red cross while patterns flashed around the screen, got to go back on thursday morning to see opticain and dicuss results but doc who checked the test said everything looked okay just old age wear and tear.It was one of the most boring things i have ever done but we have to put up with them.Technician had got west life on and you cant even sing along or talk,i found it very hard as i can talk to anyone about anything. So pocket duties for thursday please.Mig0

I had one at an opthalmologist (sp?) and it sounded similar. I also had a Shirmer's test. I'm glad it went ok though and glad they were thorough. As Suzygirl said, make sure you are tested yearly as the years pass. My optician (when I was on hydroxy) liked to test eye fields as well.
Big hugs, glad you are managing with the pill reduction. I'm sorry you're finding it so hard though0 -
Hi Mig,
Glad it went well and will certainly go in your pocket for Thursday but it all sounds ok flower.
Make sure they really do put you down for yearly tests. Cris xx0 -
Oh my poor Mig - what a dulll, tedious and boring appointment indeed but also a very vital one. It is best to be conscientious about these things, gawd knows we have enough to be dealing with without letting a potential risk slide past us so hats off to you for going and rest assured your pockets will be occupied on Thursday. Take care - and keep up the good reduction work, you are doing OK my lovely. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

I am on hydroxy & have yearly eye tests. Mine don't sound as thorough as yours though & now I feel a bit worried! I felt they were thorough at the time but I didn't have to stare at a screen for 20mins. He did field vision though.
The optician told me that chloroquine damage is very rare.
Should I be asking for a more thorough test? I am 38 so maybe age may make a difference???!!0 -
Hi sugar,They told me too that hydroxy damage to thr eyes is very rare ,i shouldnt be worried if i were you.Mig0
