is this a flare?

Hi all, as a newbie to this whole horrible illness, I wanted to ask if this sounds like a flare.
I had a relatively pain free day yesterday, but towards the evening I started feeling more and more ill...not sick but aching, and fluey. I couldn't sleep at all, was going from hot to cold and today I have felt like I've been run over by a double decker. Every single joint hurts, even my jaw which has never hurt before, as well as some muscles. I literally haven't moved off the settee all day as my body felt like something had drained every ounce of energy out of me. I'm dosed up to the eyeballs on cocodamol and still in pain. Is this what you all go through? It's horrendous.

Sending you some gentle hugs to keep you going ((((()))) xLove

Yup PU
that's what it's like for me too when they kick off, like a bad dose of flu.
Rest as much as you can. Take your meds like a good girl and try heat and/ ice on those joints. When you are awake do your best to distract yourself from the pain.
When do you next see someone?
Love

It sounds horribly familiar to me I have to say. Tired, achy and fluey. Yup, that's calssic flare material so I think the best thing to do is to rest as much as you can, keep up with the pain relief and any other meds you are taking and I hope it eases soon. I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Purple, There are a few viruses going about, but they are flare up symptoms!! Like everyone else has said, best rest and by that mean lie on settee or bed wrap yourself in one of those snuggle blankets if you have one. Or get a nice warm blanket or quilt snuggle under it and watch rubbish daytime telly or something you have sky+ or virgin whatever provider you use! Or watch a movie. Well you get my drift proper rest!! And stay warm, I'm upto week 3 with mine and it's easing off a little now but still in alot of pain and still feel weaker than usual. So I truely hope you feel better soon cause as we all know it's horrible when you get a flare up!0

Hi, and thanks for the replies.
Today has been better pain wise but am sooo tired. Had an awful appt at gp this morning, I posted another thread called 'more blood tests'. I hate that they make me feel like a fraud or a hypochondriac. Last week they said it was due to menopause (which I'm not) and today it's just muscular.
Hope you're all doing well
Take care

PU - you are not a fraud. I am exactly where you are at present and on my 2nd "flu" flair up since mid Feb.
It feels like poo but the others on here are correct all you can do is rest up as much as possible.
Menopause? Pah, I'm a bloke so I'd be worth a lot of money if that's what I have!!
Good luck,
Mark.Want what you have.0 -

LOL Mark, that did make me chuckle. What really irritates is that I was tested for menopause a few months ago (because of the tiredness etc) and all was normal, as was everything else to go with it...sorry, TMI for a bloke! The same dr who said I was menopausal told me to go back if the joint pain spread to my fingers...it has so I did. My knuckles really hurt and are stiff. But this dr today (a different one...it's impossible to see same GP twice) said it was muscular. What...everywhere???
Well off to hsopital to have more bloods taken tomorrow. The irony of it is that I have to go to a different hospital first to take my daughter to see the rheumatologist as she has hypermobility syndrome and suffers with her joints too. SO near and yet so far
This is all such fun!0 -
Shouldn't that show your doctor? Your daughter suffer's with joint problem's, it could be passed down I'm not sure on the medical proof but my Nan has bad bones like me, several family members on the 'sperm donor' (oppersite of mom, don't call him it we are estranged) side have Arthritises so you never know! I so feel for you PU all you want is to be listened to! I hope you find a doctor who will listen to you and help cover all bases to find out if you are a sufferer like us.0
