Spondulosis

Ye Gods am I in pain right now, I've been having big attacks of pain in my neck from the spondulosis over the last 3 odd months each attack is like I've been in a RTA pain and discomfort goes right up into the right side of my face and I get a numb tingling in my right palm and little finger.
Now I've always had it but this patern of calm then attack seems to be regular and seems set in to me, could this be how it's going to be from now on?, does spondulosis get worse with age?. I ask as I've had it for over 30 years but not had as this nor has it set in as fast as now, I went to bed last night feeling really good then woke up and there it was in full flood.

Hi Mell
The bugger with Arthur is we tend to associate every we get to it,it is hard not to, and I think the danger can be that we just get on with it,
If this is something new I would mention it to your GP just to be on the safe side.
Not sure if you have used the wheat cushions that you warm in the microwave , they are the only thing that work for me on my neck.
You take care.Love

Thanks for the replies ladies it's good of you, it's been doing this for the last 3 months or more, normally it creeps in over a few days and isn't this painful but now it just kicks off at full force and I just have to hang on, fecking thing is so bad I am thinking of selling my last shotgun as I can't use it like this I bought it as it's a semi auto so has little kick but if I'm like this then there's no chance of using it another hobbie I can't do anymore, fecking OA really takes the p**s.0

Not just the p--s, Mellman. It also takes the joints, the energy, the whole joy out of life. I'm sorry, I'm another with no experience of spondylosis and I'm pretty glad of that. Hang on in there. It'll move on in it's own time, definitely not in yours. I hope it's soon.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Mel
Have you had an MRI on your neck to see what is going on? If so, how long ago. If you are suffering with more pain and symptoms than before, perhaps it is time to see your gp again for investigations and the best way is an MRI.

Hi, I suffer from this and it is my understanding that it flares and settles, then flares then settles. My current flare hasnt settled and I have numb hands, muscle spasms etc. I have been referred to physio and am having acupuncture tomorrow to relieve the muscle spasms, so they can assess the neck.
I would visit your gp, especially if the numbness etc is a new or worsening symptom.0 -
From the research I did ten or so years ago, when first diagnosed with Cervical Spondylosis, it was widely thought that younger sufferers have more pain than those say in their sixties.
The thinking was that muscles, tendons get weaker with age.
Also I read that as the intervertebral discs desicate they release compounds?? that the body interprets as pain.
This is from memory. However I got it all via Google mainly.
Lots of good resources on the web.
It is also referred to as Degenerative Disc Disease.
It is a painful condition indeed. I still find rubbing in Deep Heat os one of the best.things for the pain. Just don't rub your eyes after application without.giving your hands a really good wash. A bloke at worked used to call me "Ralgex", cheeky ****.0 -
Hi sorry to hear how you have got up....hubby has this and like you he goes to bed fine and then the next morning he is in trouble and can hardly move his neck.... The good news is you will have spells of no problems... neg is you will not always get notice when the door slams and the bad day stamp in... hope you are not feeling to bad today... tomorrow is another day and fingers crossed better... my hubby has had this since his early 40's but was in the army and was told he was over weight and to start his condition was over looked.... needless to say he ended up being medical discharge after doing 21 and half years... now 3 prolapsed disc lower back and neck problems.... will not go to the doctors.... still have to to try to get him to join the group...0
