DLA and no evidence from consultant

I just spoke to my consultant's secretary asking for a letter from the doctor which I need for my DLA appeal. I found out from her, that the form that the Department for Work and Pensions sent her, when they were deciding my award, is still there!!! In other words she never filled out the form and sent it back to DLA people and thanks to that I got a lousy lower care and nothing else! I'm so angry :x . Apparently it was due to my notes being needed in different departments as I was having a foot surgery and checks before and after the op. She couldn't access the notes and fill out the form. Mad, mad world. So because I had my surgery, now I have to appeal. And because I have another appointment with the surgeon next week it means that she will not get the notes only until afterwards... And time for the appeal is running out: tic, toc... I'm so, so angry and loosing will to do anything. I also called my GP for a similar letter and found out that I'm going to have to pay for it, depending how much information I need. I can't even get information about my own illness for free... I feel really annoyed.
Sorry about the rant, just had to share it with someone.

You shouldn't have to pay for the letter for your GP. Mine does letters for free. God knows they get paid enough!

That's so bad. No way should you be paying for a letter from your GP, what are they playing at. This is not a occupational medical, this is a DWP letter, that they are writing. I would be having a little word with the Practice Manager, asking what this "payment" is for.
I know the DWP forms do ask for information about your daily life, that GP's are not always aware of, so I have always included copies of my forms, with the relevant information, to help them with their comments. They usually dictate a quick letter, not much time out of their day.

I hope your Consultant gets his finger out, or at least his Secretary. Having to go to appeal always seems such a trial and tribulation. Hugs XX Bubbles

I got a free letter from the surgery and it said : I confirm that that and that person has rheumatoid arthritis. Hope it helps.
No! It doesn't help at all! The doctor didn't even bother to sign it! I called them again and was told (by someone else) that to get more detailed letter I need to write them a letter, asking for that letter... And I was told I have to pay. Shocking.
As to my consultant, I hope that she will write the letter before the time for my appeal runs out. Again I had to write her a letter to ask for a letter (mad), which we dropped off at the hospital.
I don't think I can do anything else but wait now. I will give it until about 3 days before my appeal time runs out and then send the form and hopefully the letters if I have them.

    Oh Nesia

    this is awful :(

l am so sorry you seem to have had such bad responses. Definitely though 'helping' the GP with a request explaining what you need sounds a better idea than confirmation of RA

    hi Nesia
You can ask the DWP for an extension to your appeal, due to supporting evidence not being available at this moment in time. Worth phoning them. I cannot remember how long the extension is, but they will be able to help you. XX Bubbles

Yes I think you can ask for an extension to the appeal. Let them know why your GP cannot fill in the necessary form in time.

    Best of luck,

Thanks for the advice. I think I will phone them just like you're suggesting.
I got a call from my consultant's secretary on Friday and she said that the doctor will come to see me at my next appointment with the rheumo nurse, which is this Thursday. I hope she will write some sort of letter for me.
As to the GP, I wrote the letter as requested and heard nothing from them. I will go there tomorrow as I need to pick up my prescription and will ask whether the're doing anything.
Not sure whether I can do anything else at this point. I hope those letters will be enough.
Thank you for all the advice and good wishes.

    Hi nesia
Sorry I have only just read this, I am disgusted at how you have been treated, I hope you get some answers tomorrow, its bad enough having to claim these things without them messing it up for you.
I hope you get it all sorted x
