Hi

After trying a few different pain reliefs with no success for my oesteoarthiritis in my knees I have today been given a prescription for Celecoxib.

Just wondered if anyone has used it , if it helped with pain and what side effects I can expect.

Many Thanks

Tracey

    Hi Tracey,
I've been on Celebrex since March 2010, it's very good and doesn't upset your tum or anything, providing you are on a stomach protector you should find this really helps.
I found it took a couple of days initially for it to build up, but once it did its fine.
I've now been put on indometacin, but thats more of a trial to see if it's any better than the Celebrex, as after a while on a drug I guess it does lose its potency.
Pm me if you need any further info, I'm quite happy to help if I can. X

I've not had it, Trayguy, so can't help but my policy with side effects is to read the leaflet, keep it but then forget about them. If you get anything untoward fish the leaflet out and check it but don't expect anything bad to happen. Mostly it doesn't.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi, I have been on this for a year now after trying some of the others, with no problems, my stomach is managing mostly ok as I take omeprazole too. I have found that it takes me about 9 - 10 days to have full effect but if i miss a few doses I really notice the difference. good luck with them.

I loved Celebrex - it actually did what was promised - but after about a year my GP did not as it cost too much. It was nice while it lasted! Good luck and I hope it helps. DD

My rheumatologist advised my GP to prescribe Celebrex & I have found it quite effective for my hip pain with no side effects (I take Lansoprazole for stomach). It is the best anti inflammatory I have tried. Others gave me gastritis and a whole load of other probs. It did take a while to work (1-2 weeks).

DD - why don't you ask your consultant to write to your GP about prescribing Celebrex? I don't think my GP would've let me have it (due to cost) had my consultant not put it in a letter. The chemist had to order it especially for me as they don't normally stock it, which shows how infrequently GPs prescribe it.

I've been on celebrex since my diagnosis in 2009. I'm on the maximum daily dose for RA and when I dropped down, I noticed a different in pain and swelling. I had no side effects at first but lately, I've been getting acid reflux, although zantac helps a lot. My GP has complained a couple of times that it is an expensive drug but it makes a lot of difference to me and I fight my corner.

Good luck with it, hope it's a good drug for you too.

Hi Sugar, I did and got nowhere! The GPs choice of naproxen did nothing for the inflammation (either with or without the protector!) but I recently aquired some diclofenac which has helped. I restrict myself with that as it is contra-indicated left, right and centre with the other meds. I must be getting old - that kinda thing has never bothered me before! DD

Thanks for all your replies. Sounds like it may be okay for me. Will give it a go when I dont have to go to work - just incase. Fingers crossed it will sort me out once and for all.
