Is it just me?

It's long been my experience that, if I'm stiff'n'achey, nine times out of ten a hot bath will 'thaw out' the joints a bit. On the tenth - identical - occasion it just makes stuff worse. Anyone else find this?

I find that can happen. If I'm swollen then getting into a hot bath, however nice it sounds, is a bad idea, as the heat from the bath only serves to aggrevate the heat already in my joints. If I'm just sore with no swelling it tends to help but not always. Sometimes I think it has to do with which bits are actually the most achey: is it the muscles around the joint or the joint itself? I've found that hot baths work wonderfully on muscles but not so much on joints.

    Tacke care.

    Hi Sticky,
Yes I have been finding that having a bath helps most times but as Scattered has said it is usually when the tendons and muscles are affected.
I have retired now so I now have time to treat myself to a long soak during the day...Bliss. :D

    Hi SW
I keep thinking I have it cracked...first the hot bath..wonderful...then like you say it doesn't work every time...then I get massaged with lavender oil...wonderful but not every time... even my meds work brilliant some days but others.. :? :?

    Hi SW

on the odd occasion when I have been able to bathe/shower on a morning when OH has been at home it has helped loosen me up a little with the help of paracetamol and normal meds. But Normally with me I have to wait till evening and after my bath it is straight into bed and it is the rest through the night and extra paracetamols that helps. (even though they make me sweat  )

    Hope you are better tomorrow

Yes! It was only yesterday I was thinking how disappointing my lovely hot bath was when usually my muscles feel relaxed and warm. I agree that a warm bath helps soft tissue aches (muscles, tendons etc) but isn't great when your joints are swollen. But when everything hurts, I just want to disappear into a cloud of bubbles.

I don't know if its just me but I am struggling to get out of the bath these days so perhaps I'm better off without.

Much love to you stickywicket x

Thank you all for your replies. I think the distinction between joint pain v muscle/tendon pain is interesting though my gut feeling says that's not it with me. Never mind. Last night's bath was neutral - I went in a bit stiff and came out no worse. Result!

Hi stickyw i wouls so love to have a bath unfortunately we have a wetroom in our house and to be honest i actually hate it but the housing assocaition wont change it back to a bath so got to start saving pennys for a bath to be installed, just the thought of laying in a hot bubble bath blissfully relaxed, nowdays i have to book in a hotel to get one , dont suppose anyone knows of any charitys that deal with these sorts of issues as on benefits money is very tight as some of us know hugs Soraya :(
