I've just had a call from my County Council Health Services people,
I emailed them last week to ask if i could have a hand rail for the stairs,
they've recommended a stair hand rail, a seat for over the bath so i can shower safely, a raised loo seat, and a perch stool for the kitchen......... :-)
All coming within 7 days

what marvelously helpful people :-)

That's very good news. Yes, Occy Health are very helpful and will usually provide the small stuff quickly and easily. I hope it helps.

    Hi Sticky :-)

I hadnt asked them before as I thought I would have to pay for everything and the installation of the hand rail.......only realised the service was there from other threads on this forum.

    Happy Days :-)

I'm not sure if all are the same but mine will foot the bill up to, I think, £1,000. They recently replaced my bath lift.

They are great, I had my rails fitted and a call from my OT to see if i was getting on ok. They are a great bunch and so very kind and supportive.

Enjoy your new found freedom and support they wil give.xx

i cant have a bath so have to stand in it for a shower so they also fitted grab rails around the bath for me.
my stairs hand rail is a god send. couldnt manage without it.
when they put the hand rails around the bath they said i really need a walk in shower as ive fallen a couple of times in the bath due to my fused ankles and standing in a rounded bath isnt always the easiest.
was assessed and they came back that i passed the criteria for help.
they then gave me the breakdown and they were expecting me to pay almost £8000
i almost fell off the floor laughing.
as you can guess ive still got the bath :?

    OH were brilliant
the jobsworth from the council was a different matter.

I agree with you all the OT's are great, I have got a walk in shower with seat and grab rails, raised toilet seat with grab rails and the latest gadget is a tipper kettle, no danger now of dropping the kettle full of hot water or trying to pour it into a cup.
Just a thought a firm called Nottingham Rehab have loads of gadgets to help diabled.

    Liberation...............( of sorts )

I got my handrail for the stairs fitted at last, and my seat for the Shower.............I can now feel safe going up & down stairs and shower safely on my own without waiting for OH to be at home :-)

Items were provided by Nottingham Rehab via my County Council Community Equipment scheme...........would recommend this to anyone needing gadgets.

Hope you are all well today :-)
