Re the current lack of spoons

It has been brought to our attention that there is currently a lack of spoons on these forums.
As we all know, nothing is of more importance to an arthritic person than spoons (OK, meds are quite important too). Therefore, I propose that we establish a Forum Spoon Drawer to which each member of the forum has a key. Before retiring to bed each night, every forum member will deposit any spare spoons they have left over from that day into the drawer. In this way, we will build up a library of spoons and anyone who needs an extra spoon of two for emergencies will always be able to access them.
If anyone abuses the drawer – eg by regularly nicking a few extra spoons in advance for a weekend’s blowout – their drawer key must be returned forthwith and they will be refused access to any further keys until such time as forum members deem them trustworthy once again.
Please note – this drawer is for spoons only. Do not chuck in those old forks or knives that regularly surface at the bottom of the washing up bowl when you empty it. They are, as well you know, of no use whatsoever.

If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Can I just clarify, does the size of spoon matter?
I mean does a tablespoon give more than a teaspoon? Or doesn't it matter?
I hope not, as I always lose teaspoons and need to keep those.

What a good idea sticky, as soon as I have a spare one I shall luz it in said drawer. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

There are some in the medicine trolley, I will swap them over into the drawer. I have half a teaspoon from today, not a lot, but every little helps. xx BubblsXX Aidan (still known as Bubbles).0

I am so glad I read up about spoons today.
As I have had a very good day today (even rode my horsey) then I would like to donate a couple of spoons to the drawer.

Brilliant idea Sticky!
May I also suggest that we hold a "spoon amnesty" on a regular basis to make sure the drawer is always as full as possible? This approach worked well when all the teaspoons used to disappear regularly from the works canteen!
All I can offer at the mo is a couple of rusty dessert spoons which have been used in the garden  but I have wrapped them in kitchen roll to prevent them from contaminating the all too limited supply of nice shiny spoons in the AC drawer. I will happily contribute some new ones as soon as I have some available.

Shall keep one spoon for emergency, the drawer gets the rest, does size matter ?are plastic allowed or are they not as powerful ?Mig0

**Sends spoons!**
I shall shamefully admit I took a lot of spoons last weekend to go clubbing till 2 am. I'm still catching up on my sleep.
I promise to be kinder to the spoon drawer this weekend, although I wouldn't mind a teaspoon or two to keep me sparky for sunday lunch. I'm treating my lovely mum to fish and chips at a lovely local restaurant.0 -
Great Idea sticky
I need to pinch a couple for the weekend....please!!!!!
I've got a full day arthritis conference on Saturday and the way I feel at the moment not sure how I'll stand up to it.
I'll return any unused ones after the weekend

What a great response! I knew you lot would come up with the….er….spoons.
Janie – Please! I thought it was only the males of the species who were concerned about size. For AC purposes a spoon is a spoon is a spoon. Size is irrelevant.
DD – I have no doubt that you will, as ever, contribute as soon as circumstances permit. Meanwhile, have a couple on me. You’ve earned them.
Bubbles, Bubbles, Bubbles – What a kind lady you are! However, your generosity exceeds your common sense. You are prepared to sacrifice your last ½ spoon before 5pm? I cannot allow it. Spoons may only be donated at bedtime. Besides, we can’t deal in ½ spoons. If our families and friends cannot grasp the concept of an entire spoon, they should be made to re-read the Spoon Theory until they can.
Fols – Like Bubbles you are too kind. Hang onto the spoons until bedtime. That horseride may yet come back to bite you on the proverbial.
Tilly – I love the amnesty idea. And a rusty spoon is every bit as good as a sparkly one. It has probably caused a few aches and pains while on gardening duties so it is only right that it should be allowed to redeem itself. Thank you.
Mig – Thank you for your generous donation. I think we should all confer on the value of plastic spoons. Are they as valuable? Should we accept them? It would be dreadful if someone was pushed over the edge because their spoon broke. What do you think?
May – 4 spoons is a most generous donation but so typical of you. I trust you’ve had a reasonable day. Thank you.
Starburst – I’m deeply shocked. (Hope you enjoyed your evening though). Spoons, cannot be pre-ordered otherwise there wouldn’t be any. Their purpose is to mop up after-effects not to facilitate them.
Hileena – I’m not sure we should make any exceptions, even for an arthritis conference. What do you mean ‘stand up to it’? You will sit down to it, young lady and, if anyone asks why, you will simply say ‘Insufficient spoons’. (Psst – as it’s in a good cause I’ll slip you a couple of mine. I’m planning an easy day.)If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

On reflection plastic not a good idea ,some-one could have a nasty accident if they broke.Mig0

I need a couple of spoons , although the forthcoming grandchild news is lovely , short notice so not much time to prepare, so spoons of any size shape and material welcome at the moment, I promise to repay when possible.
Starburst how many spoons do you need to go clubbing?..I think I would need hundreds!Ruby0 -
Does half a spoon count?
Feel like i may have just a little bit left on my spoon, am off to bed now, seems such a shame to waste it..
Shall put in a teaspoon with a coating of nutella for that added extra touch..xxTracyxx0 -
I'm having a chat with Juliepf and she has made a very good point: please will all those who belong to the Order of Spoons ensure that any replaced spoon is as clean as possible to lessen the risks of spreading infection. I have a sore throat and she has a spot on her chin (which is visible to the naked eye) so we feel this is a valid point. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

IMPORTANT SPOON UPDATE
Thank you all for your interesting and useful contributions, as a result of which decisions have been taken viz:
1. Drawer keys are unnecessary. The drawer handle (easy to grasp and to open, of course) will register your hand print instantly (It is a superior model to those at US immigration which struggle to recognise an arthritic handprint) and also keep a tally of your personal 'spoons in/spoons out' ratio.
2. The spoon drawer has a mechanism which instantly disinfects all spoons placed inside it (including gardening spoons, you'll be relieved to know, Tilly). Therefore, the management cannot accept any responsibility for sore throats, spots, yellow fever, STDs or any other infections.
3. Plastic spoons and half spoons are unreliable and therefore dangerous. It is with regret, but also gratitude for the offers, that we must regard them as inadmissible – with or without nutella, Traluvie.
4. Flares are an unfortunate and unpredictable part of arthritic life, and those in a flare will naturally need more spoons than usual. Therefore, the Spoons in/Spoons out Tally Counts will only be sent out quarterly to allow for fluctuations in health. Every member will be expected to more or less break even over the quarterly period. Failure to comply may result in erasure of the fingerprints. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

great idea, here are a couple of spoons for the draw, had a very quiet day so far so have a couple spare. xWaddle0

handing 2 spoons in today............have had a very lazy day and feeling quite good :-) x0
-
Not a spoon to spare i'm affraid this week has been a baden and i have found myself out of spoons before mid day.
Just so as you know mig its not the size that matters its how you use it. ( your Spoon )
DD can you give a guestimate as to how many spoons someone with a autoamune disease might use up in a day.
What do others think
ColinWHEN GOD GIVES YOU LEMONS MAKE LEMONADE0 -
Waddle and JuliaHod - thank you. You are both very generous with your spoons, especially as the evening was young at the time.
Colin - My answer would be that it all depends on the day. I've had 5 spoon days and I've had 500 spoon days. However, in The Spoon Theory there are 12. That's how it works. We all want more but can't have more so we have to ration them and call it a day when the last one is used.............................Except in cyberspace, of course, where we can add and take from the spoon drawer at will.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.
