sulfasalazine causing side effects?

I have been taking sulfasalazine for a few months increasing the dose to 2500mgs.
At the start I had a few headaches which soon went. In the last 3-4 weeks I have had a really bad taste/smell & am wondering if the sulfasalazine could be causing it?
A lot of food tastes so bad that I can't eat it, this is mostly sweet foods but includes fruit & yogurt. Chocolate is awful - I am usually addicted to it so not being able to eat it is a great hardship!
I have lost over 5lbs in just under 2 weeks.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This topic has occurred before. I found when taking Naproxen in addition to sulph my tongue became beautifully coated with oral thrush and that has never really cleared (despite my not taking that med any more). I am still on the sulph however, and I empathise. Nothing tastes right, bland food is horrendous! I zing everything up with chillies and as for chocolate I rarely bother - I prefer savoury flavours. It is an added misery on top of everything else but if the sulph is helping the arthritis then that surely has to be a good thing. I wish you well. DD

PS I wonder if it could it be interacting with any other meds you take?
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben
