Oh YORKYSUE, sometimes the injections don't work and no-one seems to know why. I have had a number of joint jabs and only one 'worked' for an appreciable length of time so I know how frustrating this can be. How old is your daughter? I only ask because she does appear to have some wisdom inasmuch as she doesn't want to see her mum struggling but, as an adult, you are aware of the difficulties you may face if you do stop work. I wish I could help in a more positive way but, alas, I fear I cannot. I am so sorry. DD

I’m so sorry the injections didn’t work. I guess it’s just one of those things – sometimes they do and sometimes they don’t.

I can see this must be a very worrying time for you, not just healthwise but financially also and the work you do cannot be easy in your situation. I don’t know what the rules and regs are about such things but I do find it slightly farcical that H&S don't turn up to assess how safe things are for you - and presumably, therefore, for the children in your care. That cannot be right.

Maybe if you posted on the ‘Working Matters’ forum you’d get more help with that. I think also it might help if you were to phone our Helplines to talk to someone about the wider picture – someone who can understand both the financial and arthritic side of things.

I’m glad you have a kind, understanding daughter. I hope something can be worked out which will make life easier for you.

    Hi Sue
Just to say I had the same injections, and they didnt work for me, but the pain clinic said for some reason they dont always work the first time...
So they recommend me having more, but I must say they can knock me out for the next ones.
I have just had another hip injection, done under a local, the first one did nothing, but this one is just starting to make a difference.
So please dont give up hope.
I do wish you well, and I understand some of what you are going through
    Take care xxx
    Love

I am so sorry to read that your injections do not appear to have worked, YorkySue. It can take 7 - 10 days but I believe you may have just passed that amount of time. The jabs are not only provided to give pain relief but also to enable you to perform exercises to strengthen the back and take the load away from the affected joints. Have you had physio to try to help you with your back problems? I can appreciate your worry that the children may knock into the back of you and you cannot have this thought at the back of your mind all the time when at work. Thinking that you must give up work is awful for you and you have my sincere sympathy. Life really sucks at times but you do have a wonderful daughter who loves you so much. I wish I could be more helpful, I really do.

I'm sure that if they know it's not working that they will try you on something else.

Not sure which injection it is you've had but they tried me first on depo-medrone, which kind of worked but not for long. I'm now on adalimumab (Humira) which I do at home twice a month (sounds daunting but it's ok!) and other tablets. It will take a few more weeks yet for it to get into my system and to know if it's working for me.

If you're having problems at work then insist on seeing Occ Health or whatever organisation is assisting you, even get signed off if necessary. You come first.

Take care and keep us updated.

I'm having 6 injections into my back on Friday and I will be honest, I'm bricking it. Any of the other injections I've had in the past on the hips and knees have made no difference so I don't think these will work either.

I'm also supposed to be starting physio on Weds which could be interesting as my joints simply CAN'T move anymore as they are so knackered but there I go being negative again and I said I wouldn't be.

Let us know what work have said. I'm hoping they are being sympathetic.

    Hugs.

YORKYSUE, I think you need a spot of pocket duty for tomorrow and I, for one, shall be there. Be brave and make sure they know exactly how it is for you. Good luck.

Oh no, oh Yorky, that is not on. Teenagers are well-known for being moody but factor in the difficulties that your client group is facing . . . . . . . You undoubtedly have a rewarding job but on the physical side perhaps it is too dangerous for you now. Is there another area (but in the same field) where you could work with safety? I am not surprised by your manager's attitude: saddened yes, but nothing else. I will be with you in spirit tomorrow, I promise. DD

The very best of luck with everything, I really hope something can be sorted for you at work.

    Hi Sue

l remember those weebles!! l think my little brother had one!

Sue l will be thinking of you today and hoping that things go well for you. Maybe there IS a solution. Whatever happens it will be better than all the 'not knowing' and worrying. Fear of the future is the worst thing for me.

    Lots of luck
