Hi everyone,

Well i had my appointment with my surgeon 2/4/12 and thankfully my hips are o/a free which is a huge relief to me.

But my spine from S1 to T11 is naff turns out my leg pain is 2 bones are rubbing together and in 2 places my spine is pinching my spinal collumn causing my pain 1 disc has gone completly with it's contents putting a fatty pressure on the other side of.

So in sum up i'm told i need a needle inserted in my lower spine ink injected to see if a cortisone injection will help my leg pain by melting my fatty disc and support my spinal collumn, as for my constant pain that i will have to deal with at my doctor's.

I too am pleased about your hips: I dread mine becoming affected but so far, so good. As for the rest of it, well, 'ouch' is all I can say. You poor thing, at least you know what is happening but that doesn't necessarily make life any easier. I think that pain is a constant feature of life for the majority of us on here and although the docs can offer pain relief we still have to deal with the residual that is not cleared the tablets etc., (that's my experience of pain relief, anyhoo!) I hope the inky thing will show that a cortisone jab will help matters, because when they work they are very effective. I wish you well. DD

Yes, I can understand that the relief is only partial. Let's hope all goes well with the injection and the cortisone can help.

Hope you don't mind me popping up on this thread, but your pain sounds exactly like mine, I have oa left hip and lower spine si joint and also leg pain especially the knee, but past few days I have been experiencing what feels like pain caused by a nerve just a little further up my back , it is effecting my walking now constant pain in groin. I have known for a while now that I have oa but the pain seems to be developing by the day. :-(

    Hi,

When i asked the surgeon about my pain he said i should speak to my gp again and try and sort something else out with her he can't cure my back and that is a pain i now have for life!

My advice get back to your doctor and get it sorted they can help :)

    Hi,

Went to doc's and she has changed my co/codomol to 30/500 from 15/500,
and she is making me an appointment to see the pain clinic.

    So it turned out ok.

That's a good result. I hope the increased cocos help. Most people are very positive about pain clinics.

    Hi barbara12,

I don't envy your hip problem i depend on mine alot so i can't imagine the difficulties you have with both back and hip pain.

I was turned down for pain clinic i had to have my jab in the spine then see
my specialist 8 weeks later, but now that i have when i see my doc on the 14th she will put me forward for it again as my position was left open.

    Hi vwkamper,

Just to add my twopenneth worth: have you been offered any nerve pain drugs? Like gabapentin or amitriptyline. I have been taking the amitriptyline and it is pretty good for the nerve pain. I am just now swapping to gabapentin following physio advice because it might help even more with some of my other nerve issues. I only got either of these by asking my GP directly! I have to say that the "normal" painkillers never helped with the leg pains at all but I have had good results with the ami and hope the gaba will prove just as good.

I had spinal injections about 11 weeks ago and they did help me. They are scary but worth it (if they work of course).

Good luck. Oh, and sorry of you are already on the ami/gaba.
