An abbreviation for osteoporosis.

Someone asked on chit-chat what some of our abbreviations mean and I supplied a basic list. (Very basic as I myself am very basic. ) It then occurred to me that I have never seen an abbreviation for osteoporosis (which is a long word for hurty fingers to type). I think one would be useful so I have chosen the following: please click on the one you prefer and feel free to add any comments (especially those along the line of 'It already has one, you daft mare.' Oh string vests! I've gone wrong. I went for OP on the grounds of it's an abbreviation so why write more than you have to. Then I realised OP is simple op(eration) with caps lock stuck on. Sorry. I need to crank the old brain cell into gear again.

Well I call it OP as I've got it.
Never thought of OP for operation.I refer to mine as lacy bones (LACY) not lazy before anyone questions it as a typing error.May

I'm sure OP is the official one but as has been said it can be seen as operation and also Out Patients.
In context it makes sense eg I suffer with OP.
isn't going to be read as I suffer with operation / outpatients.
    I need a sleep sorry. :?

Oh I don't know, Ruby. I've suffered from a fair few outpatients in my time. :D

Yes, that sounds familiar. I tend to attract people who insist on telling me their life story! Though I've also met a few nice chaps in hospital waiting rooms, so I shouldn't complain too much

Back on topic, I've voted OstP, with thanks to DD for the poll :D
PsA (psoriatic arthritis) and other things since 1990. Happy to help when I can :-)

    Why abbreviate?

Why not? We don't type other stuff in full, thus I thought it a reasonable thing to ponder. I have to admit that there is one particular abbreviation I LOATHE but that's just me. DD

Having recently been admitted to the honourable society of
those with osteoporosis I reckon I will come across and use this
word more than I have previously done. I always write my
medical conditions in full so that I and those whom it may concern
    get it absolutely right.

OOOh no! I'm happy to have a Blue Badge but I wouldn't like it to mean I also had Brittle Bones.

I think we have something of an impasse here as it will always be tricky to distinguish, abbreviationally( :?: ) speaking, between osteoporosis and osteopaenia.

I've changed my vote to OsteoP to avoid confusion. It can still be confused with osteopaenia but I don't see how any abbreviation for that would work as I don't think it's very common even on here.

    Hi Sticky/Stocky
I am one of those odd ones.....that has osteopinia
Maybe I'm just greedy and want the lot
I'm quite happy to type it in full 'cause thankfully my hands are OK at the minute.
    Love

On reflextion, I think Sticky your probably right about bb .... maybe not so good   ,But for the sake of any confusion ..OSTEOPINIA. is simply a potential future of OSREOPOROSIS . showing up on a dexa scan a very good thing as time to improve things re diet exercise extra calcium still not sure of the abbreviations so far though Marrianne :).....s/p sorry should read OSTEOPOROSIS
