Hi all, sorry I have not been on here much as been very busy and down.
I had a hospital appointment today and as I thought he said I did have Dupuytrens contracture... I am quite happy that at last someone is sitting up and noticing that I am in pain and things are getting difficult.. He is referring me to a surgeon :) as I do have several lumps in the palm of my hand and I would like to take my chance and have them removed.

Can anyone enlighten me on this or who has had the op and was it successful ?

I started a new job recently, only 8 hours a week, 2 days at 4 hr shift, its shop work and it is constant handling at a till and detagging, since I have started this it has really left me in a lot of pain. To be honest I am thinking is it work £6.14 n hour for pain and more damage :(.. I also work part time and that is a desk job , but that is fine as I can sit down and not over strain my joints... Just needed that extra income.. I am not work shy... but neither am I capable anymore..

I will be 44 yrs old this year and I am devasted.

Anyway. Big hugs to you all.. Gentle ones at that :)

I'm really sorry to hear this Dotty. I can't help with any info as I really don't know what it is :? but it sounds very painful.

I think you are right that the shop job is going to do you more harm than good so maybe you should concentrate on your other job. Nobody would think you are work shy, far from it. We all understand how hard it is just to cope from day to day and adding in extra strain won't help.

I'm only 45, haven't been able to work for the last two years and I hate it. I really miss working, having my own money and a change of scenery. Unfortunately Arthur doesn't care about our age.

Big hugs and try to rest up over the weekend.

    Fols x

My brother in law has Dupuytrens. He's had a couple of ops now, one in each hand, I think. They were quite successful and he's kept working all through apart from a week or so after the op.

    Hi Dotty,

I can't help with what the op involves etc but maybe you could either get a phone conversation or an appointment to run through it all with the consultant ... or (they don;t always make much time available) could your GP run through it all with you?

That aside I also wanted to leave you a (((( )))) with a hope that it will soon be less worrying and you will get the hands sorted. Hang in there and nice to see you again. Cris x

Hi, I have this and have large lumps in the palm of my hand, but have been offered nothing for it. Having said that, I am on steroids and they do help it, I have noticed.

I hope your op helps, and it will be interesting to hear how you get on.

    Take care

Thank you xx I shall have to wait to see the surgeon to see what he suggests, tho I would like something done about it. I cannot get on with my hand splints, they seem so stiff :( and I won't wear them out yet :(
