Just One Thing

We all know how arthur puts a stop to things in our lives and generally we find a way around them, adjust our lives to fit or find something else to do instead.

If you could wind the clock back to pre-arthur days what one thing do you really wish you could do? (I know we could all list lots of things but one thing will stand out over all the rest.)

Mine would be to wash my own hair. It’s really important to me that my hair looks good and waiting till its convenient for others to do it drives me demented. Mr Legs is really good and will do it when I ask but sometimes I have to bide my time especially when I know he’s busy. Friends will help out too but it is the one thing I’d love to do myself again.

I would do it at any time of day or night, I would massage my scalp and have lots of lovely smelling soapy bubbles and I would leave the conditioner on for a few minutes before combing it through and I would gently blot the water off before drying. If only!!! (and I'm not bitter, honest :lol: )

What is your one thing? :D

Luv,
Love, Legs x

Play the piano. I never did it well but I always found it a great way of expressing emotions. (Everyone knew what sort of mood I was in  )

Ooh yes, wash my hair would be high up there but mine would be to have a lovely hot soak in a bath with bubbles. I've not had a bath for 3 years now (shhh you lot, I DO wash) cos I can't get in and out of one.

I would be in there for hours, topping it up to keep it hot and would be all pruney when I got out to the waiting massive fluffy pink towel. Ahhhhh bliss!

I'm still able to do most things. I love gardening and am still able to do a bit, although not nearly as much as I used to. The one thing I really miss is running. I used to train from as soon as the weather improved after the winter until I entered a half marathon at the end of September. Two years ago, I went out for my 1st 3 mile run and just couldn't do it. I loved the speed I could run at and the feeling of being fit and healthy.

Although at times, I feel a bit sorry for myself, after reading your posts, I am also grateful that I can still do most things.

I miss that too, Jaja. I slid off the couch to play trains with my grandson earlier this year and discovered I still couldn’t reach the track because nothing would bend in the right direction (me not the track). In the end Mr SW had to haul me up again.

Coco – that’s how we used to camp – just a tent in a field with a tap (usually over the cattle trough) and a loo. Happy days!

Folara – I have a bath lift supplied by Social Services. I can’t do showers as nothing bends far enough.

I really wish I had passed my driving test! And had a car and driven where I had wanted to go. I REALLY hate that I didn't get the courage to carry on. What started this is I had been having lessons and was close to being able to put in for my test, and on the way home I was driving down the highway and was starting to slow down for the island when I saw in my mirror this large articulated lorry A tesco one (that delivers the food to the store) coming speeding towards me and wasn't slowing down. Before I knew it the back of my learner car hit the back of my drivers seat and glass was everywhere, next thing I remember a police man was crouched next to me talking to me I noticed the car door was missing. My instructor was no where to be seen. I don't remember nothing still until I was at home, my sister was running round phoning people, A police woman had given me a cup of tea and was sitting next to me. All I can really still remember clearly was being at the police station doing a statement, what I know from the police was , the lorry driver didn't know the area and couldn't stop in time, he hit my learner car at 30mph and squashed and pushed the car into the island. If it had been rush hour I would have been dead. My instructor was badly injured and ended up in a wheelchair I was lucky and didn't get the full force of the accident, it damaged my lower back, and I had bruises to my chest from the steering wheel. It also stopped me from taking my test, I was so scared of getting behind the wheel until just before I was diagnosed, literally 2 months before I was diagnosed I decided I was going to start having lessons again. Fate hey!

What a terrible experience Bubba and enough to put many off the idea of driving again. Shame it was arthur who stopped you afterall :(

I, too, learnt to drive but didn't get round to putting in for my test and gave up because I was pregnant and wanted to concentrate on my baby.

I know what it's like to have to rely on taxis or friends/family for lifts especially as I can't use public transport.

    Take care,

Dancing would at the top of my list, I miss being able to dance around the room if the right bit of music comes on.

Also being able to wear any shoes I want.

And being able to do what I want, when I want & not having to plan my days around whether my ankles will hurt alot after i've done certain things & if it's a good day or bad day.

I guess we just learn to adapt , sorry it's not just one thing.

Don't worry Racergirl, I know we all have a list longer than our arm.

Flat shoes make us all feel frumpy, even when we're dressed up to the nines. Have you seen the size of heels the girls on TV wear it makes my feet cry just looking at them?
