Medication Worry

Does anyone else worry about the medication they are taking? I then think, what choice have I got. My consultant says it's the quality of life I've got to think of - that's what the medication is giving me. Does anyone else worry like me?

Yes, I worry all of the time. I wish I had the courage to stop all medications, but I think that would be unbearable and probably a very bad move! but we still have the choice, and can say no to anything we're not sure of. I have refused Retuximab, it is a step too far for me at the moment. Wishing you well.

I don't know what medication you are on, judyc. I think most people, myself included would prefer not to take any meds at all but anyone with an auto-immune version of arthritis would be most unwise to take that route.

When I was diagnosed there were no DMARDS. I was on steroids at 15 and then, until the advent of DMARDS, I took whatever anti-inflammatory didn't currently erode my stomach lining and give me ulcers. This is why all my joints, with the exception of the replaced ones, are very misshapen and I have ongoing stomach problems. Why go down that route unecessarily?

I take as few meds as I can get away with. Both my GP and my rheumatologist are very happy for me to do that as long as I liaise with them. Whenever I have to up my paindullers, I ensure I reduce them again asap. Meds are a necessary evil but nowhere near as evil as unchecked RA.

After a life-time spent inhaling (once the meds were invented) injecting, rubbing and swallowing stuff I don't think twice. The theory is it's all meant to help and if it does then that is a bonus. If you are new to this, however, then it is a very different prospect. I guess it is normal to be concerned but if relief is gained then maybe the worries and fears fade a little? I hope so. I wish you well. DD

    Yes.. Absolutely....

I was someone who wouldnt even take a paracetamol, so I did worry a lot about taking methotrexate, but, 4 years later, have got used to taking it now. The next big worry was starting an anti-tnf drug, but, lo and behold, 12 months later and I hardly give it a thought..

I try and keep things to a minimum though, so just take those two drugs, plus folic acid and the odd paracetamol...

Oh yes, I hate popping copious amounts of pills a day but they do get me through each day so I guess they are doing what they are supposed to do.

I am getting put on pregabolin in 2 weeks so that's another one to add to the score lol.
