MoneysavingExpert.com forum for some DLA and ESA advice.
Blimey they eat you alive on there. There's a couple of people who constantly belittle anyone asking for information on benefits as it seems we are all scroungers.
I decided it was too tough a place for me. Think i may pop onto the other benefit and (something -jeez my memory sucks lately) website.

I think the general information on there is quite good but don't think I'd ask for help on the forum again. I live on my own, am on a very low wage and part own my house, renting part from a housing association so I get a bit of housing benefit.
At some point my heating boiler will need to be replaced and I don't think I will be able to pay for it myself. I asked if anyone had ever got help, a loan perhaps, from their housing association for such repairs. A few of them came down on me like a ton of bricks, saying that if I couldn't afford repairs, I should sell the house and buy something I could afford. I was quite shocked and, as I say, won't be going back there.Christine0 -
Never posted on there but have seen some real nastiness wrt benefits. I saw a lady point out that she was refused permission to attend her father's ESA medical with him.
The woman wanted to be present as her Father is not a native English speaker and needed some help with interpreting. She was refused access as ATOS had arranged an interpreter for the session and they would only permit her father, the interpreter and the ATOS HCP to be in the room.
She complained about it and wanted to know if what they did was allowed. She just got a load of racist abuse about people resenting their taxes paying for interpreters. The issue was not so much the language issue, but rather that because her Father also needed an interpreter (I believe ATOS wanted someone who wasn't her daughter to remove any bias on her part against them), she wasn't allowed to give him moral support. Also, as her Father was pretty old he probably wanted someone with him to prompt him.
I'll read the forums for general tips but I wouldn't post after I saw how badly that lady was treated.0 -
Hi Fols,
I would never be brave enough to post there or even look to be honest.... Folk can get some nasty and well they forget we also pay and have paid a lot of tax in our time....
I hope you are ok after that eye opener though? Cris x0 -
I stopped posting for that reason too. I got sick of it in the end.
I also dropped Facebook a few weeks ago - and yes you can live without it. My OH is standing in the local elections and it got so nasty, I thought do I need this in my life adding to stress? Decided not, wrote e mail to nearest friends and pulled the plug.0 -

Well I finally lost my rag and reported a rather nasty character to the forum mods. I told them that I won't be going there again and that several people I know won't as you get abused and none of us need that when all we wanted was some info.
Honestly this particular poster seems to think we are all skivers and on the make and he is such a saint etc.
Grrrrr made my blood boil.

Hi Fols,
I had a look on that site yesterday as I was trying to find out a bit more about benefits. I can see what you mean - theres some really vicious people on there - I think I know who you may have reported yesterday, I ended up tracking his posts and they are all the same - absolutely awful person.
I don't think I'll be posting on there any time soon

I did the same Jan. There were about 12 pages just of that person's posts. Didn't go through all of them but, the ones I did, were all putting down someone who had mentioned benefits.Christine0

He's such a self righteous idiot. I told the Forum Mods that's he is bad advertising for them and they need to have a word. I have noticed that his posts haven't been so bad today so maybe he's had a word in his ear?
So glad we are all lovely and helpful people here
