Steroid injections for hip bursitis

Hi,
Just wondered if any one had experienced injections for hip bursitis- I'm due to have steroid imjections in both hips tomorrow-really hoping they'll help as I haven't had much sleep for months-had to wait 10 weeks for an appointment for these since seeing the rheumy nurse. I've been told that I may need a couple of days in bed to give them chance to work-it would be helpful to know ahead so that I can make preperations for home-the OH is wonderful but not at all domesticated!
Thanks for your advice.

I haven't had these but my body just loves steroids in any form so, in your position, I'd be a happy bunny.
Yes, after any steroid jabs into the joint you should rest up for two days to give it the maximum opportunity to work. Two days isn't very long in terms of leaving the washing, ironing etc. If the worst comes to the worst you can always get take aways or ready meals but, hey, who knows, you may find you've been married to a closed domestic god all these years I find, after operations, I do have to be relaxed about housework etc as Mr SW does not do it my way or to my timetable but, give him free rein and Delia, and he comes up with some good meals. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

I didn't know you had to rest up! I never have!!! Wonder if that's why they have never worked.
I have had 2 injections into my left hip. Sadly neither worked but that is not to say your won't. Everyone is different. I would play it up a bit so you get pampered
Good luck.

Hi Deb
Just to let you know I had my first Steroid Injection for Hip Bursitis (in my thigh) about 6 weeks ago with amazing results! I am almost pain free and able to walk alot further than before, if I push my luck too much I get twinges but nothing compared to the pain I was in previously, I have had a really positive experience from it and would recommend.
My RA Physio insisted I rest for 2 days after the injection as too much movement disperses the steroid around the body rather than staying in th e joint/area it is most needed. I did just that, booked 2 days off work and my hubbie booked 2 days off to look after me. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
PS I was casred stiff prior to the injection and couldn't belive how little pain it caused and how quickly it was over so dont worry too much about the actual injection.
Good Luck and i hope it goes as well as mine did Deb!
Take Care
Yvonne

Hi, I have had injections into hip and shoulder for bursitis. It helped for a short time, but the weakness remained, along with the restricted movement.
I hope it helps you, restingt o give it chance to work does help. Sticky has given good advice. I have to take my control freak hat off  , when my hubby takes over as he does things his way. Does us both good though0 -
Well, it's the big day and I hope all is going/has gone/will go well. The post-injection resting is essential, I am glad you have been advised to do that and I hope the injection works well for you. Let us know how you got on as and when you can, yes? I am thinking of you. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thanks for the encouragement/care. I'm home and settled in front of the TV with a cup of tea and plenty of sympathy. The injections were okay and the local anaesthetic has worn off yet so not feeling much discomfort, but the doctor recommended taking cocos regularly for a couple of days so I'll just rest here and wait to see how they work.
Got loads of school work to catch up on-reports to write etc, so maybe tomorrow I'll use this inactivity to good effect and start that-or then again maybe I'll just relax and read a good book!!!!!
Thanks again.

Relax. Reports can wait, I reckon you need to be in better health before tackling those! I think things may well feel a little sore as the anaesthetic wears off so yes, keep up with the co-cos, the tea and the resting, and I hope you soon feel the benefit of the jab. I am glad to hear that all went well, thanks for the update. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Thank you all for the kind thoughts and support-it really matters knowing that there are others who understand all this rubbish we live with- had some sleep and the pain is okay! Just hoping that the injections do their stuff-I'm willing it to work, so am sitting still and letting OH do his stuff- bless him, he's being very attentive and caring. Sitting still isn't easy- daytime TV isn't exactly exciting is it? But it's worth persevering if it works, and I'm hopeful. I've just been chatting with a friend living abroad who has to pay for every docotors visit etc -makes you realise just how fortunate we are living in Britain with ready access to medical care whatever our circumstances- and the wide variety of arfur we struggle with makes us all frequent users I guess! :?
Hope that you're all having a decent day.
