Hi everyone

Is there anyone on Teriparatide injections for osteoporosis?

I have an appointment in the next few days and I think I may be offered this injection.

Could you please let me know the side effects if you have been on this treatment.

Thank you.

    HI Aprilann,

I have no knowledge personally about this drug, but happened to be on the NHS choices web so did a search which brought up this booklet about osteoporosis which is by the Osteoporosis society so should be fairly trustworthy. (general internet searches can at times bring up wildly wrong info so I always stick to a few sites which are more trustworthy)

    http://www.nhs.uk/ipgmedia/national/national osteoporosis society/assets/drugtreatmentsforosteoporosis.pdf

apparently Teriparatide is a 'parathyroid hormone treatment' (I try to learn something new every day ) and you need page 19 of the booklet.

hope that helps & that if you need it, the drug works for you.

Thank you wonkylegs for your speedy reply.

Yes I will look at that website (tomorrow now as I am getting tired).

After submitting that question I looked back and realised I asked the same question in February - oh dear sorry.

It shows I am getting nervous about whether I should have the injection or not.

    Hello AprilAnn

You might like to call the National Osteoporosis Society helpline http://www.nos.org.uk/page.aspx?pid=268. I talked to them recently about osteoporosis drugs and they were brilliant and gave me lots of good information. Their helpline is staffed by specialist nurses so they are very knowledgeable. Hopefully that would give you some good, unbiased information ahead of your appointment.

Really good luck with your appointment AprilAnn.
