Pain relief from OA - kidney transplant drugs not compatible

Can splinting a finger joint help? The slightest movement is excruciating and I cannot have prescription drugs to ease symptoms because I am on anti rejection and immunosuppressive drugs following a kidney transplant. So is it just paracetamol for me? Also OA in hips and hands but most severe in index finger, malformed too. Any advice? My renal team don't know what to do as the drugs for OA are bad for the kidney. Help! :-0

Hello Webby777 and welcome to the forum.

Strapping your index finger to the next one might help a little.

Are you sure it's OK for you to take paracetamol? Did your renal team suggest it? I'm no doc but it just surprises me as I thought anyone with kidney problems had to be wary of paracetamol and its compounds.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

    Hiya,

    Welcome from me too

As Sticky has said, splinting the finger might help. I think with renal patients, it's more Ibuprofen thats the problem. I'm sure paracetamol is ok but check with your pharmacist if you're worried.

    Hope the pain eases,

    Hi Webby,
Aw sorry to hear you are suffering so much, Sticky’s idea is a good one my friend tapes hers together when her fingers are playing her up.
Can you get your doctor to refer you the OT department? They could help and advise you on splints. In the mean time you could try heat on the effected joints, wheatbags warmed in the microwave can be comforting, I have a hot wax bath which I bought for my hands and sometimes a tens machine can help, we are all different and what suits one doesn’t another. I hope things improve for you soon Webby.

Welcome to the forum from me too.
