I have been told by the practice pharmacist that i have to change from celecoxib to naproxen has anyone else had to do this. They say it is because there is more cardiovascular risk with celecoxib rather than naproxen.i am a little sceptic and think naproxen may be cheaper!!

Hi Janjankay58 and welcome to the forum. I'm not a pharmacist or any sort of health professional but, from my limited understanding of these things, I believe Cox2 inhibitors - and celecoxib is one - do carry a greater cardiovascular risk than other NSAIDS such as naproxyn.

I too was prescribed celexicob - as this was a gentler drug on the stomach... but the GP did mention to me at the time of prescribing that there was a "slightly" higher risk for the heart... but it was a "tiny tiny" percentage - so I thought it was worth a try...

It does have a higher cardio risk. Whether or not you should be swapped should be judged on your other risk factors too.

I used to be on celecoxib and I was swapped from it, but naproxin doesn't agree with me so i'm on Etodolac a different cox 2 inhibitor.

Speak to your doctor about it

I have also just been taken off celecoxib, I was on it for years. I'm now on Arcoxia instead.

I remember asking my rhummy proff about celecoxib and the risk of heart attacks as I had read this somewhere.
I take one twice a day,
He told me that there was very little risk.
As I have now changed rhummys after 20 odd years with the same one, I think i will again ask at my next app, after reading these comments.

I hope the naproxen works as well for you janjan :)
