I remember asking my first rheumatologist the same question: after a nightmare with eczema as a child and some foods triggering asthma attacks I thought it a reasonable point. He fell about laughing which didn't inform me that much.

I have tried things over the years but nothing has had any lasting impact whatosever. Like you I stick to my five-plus per day (I thank whoever I like vegetables, fruit was a no-no as a child and it's very disappointing now), meat is organic where possible but not much in the way of beef or pork, I love fish and eat a deal of that - living near the coast has its benefits! - and I have lost my taste for chocolate: give me savoury every time!

Take your time to come to a conclusion, tinydancer, I cannot stress enough that you have enough to be thinking about at the moment and you don't have what A.I.R. has. Talk to your rheumatologist, the rheumatology nurses and us who are at the sharp end of this business. Chat to AC too - their Helpline is a good source of support and info. I think the forum for them is closed tomorrow as it is the last Friday of the month, but I don't know about the phone Helpline - anyway that's a free call (I think) so even if they're not there it won't cost you a penny. I wish you well. DD

    Hi Tiny...
I wish you well whatever you decide mi dear...
Only time I've found food effects me is the IBS/IBD.. Red meats and wheat are a bugger, but I've never found any difference with the actual arthritis..
Only thing I will say (it's just my opinion.....)
If it was as easy as changing diet then surely everyone would do it and be ok?
And the mumbo jumbo thing, just another opinion of mine lol
Nine people does not a decent study make

    Hi Tiny,

Sorry only just seen your post and a belated hi from me as well.

I can understand your fears but the side effects may not happen and the disease is happening. The mtx can work very well for some people and its well worth a shot.

I been on it for a couple of years or so and the only side effect its given me is sickness and the gp's have stopped that with anti-emetics so I only feel a bit sick now.

I do also have a very tied day the 2nd day after I have taken it but never sure that's the mtx its self but think it is.

There are a lot of people who get no side effects at all so hang inn there and try not to read up too much about what it might do as what it can do is control your inflammation.

Diet wise... been a veggie for years and still got all this bone shift but maybe for some the diet thing does help? Nice to meet you and hang in there cus it does get easier. Cris x
