Hi again
I am into my 4th week of recovery from THR and still find it so hard to stay awake, with or without my very lovely Oxynorm painkillers, Is this normal? I was expecting tiredness for a couple of weeks, I had op 10th April, also I had an epidural under heavy sedation instead of general aneasthetic, so feel I should be more alert by now, can any of you lovely people advise me on my sleepy sickness

Although you didn't have a GA, you still had a good dose of sedation which is bound to affect you for a while.
You also had major invasive surgery which your body is now concentrating on healing so it's telling you to rest to let it get on with the healing.
If you feel that tired, then rest and get better.

Hello macri, it's lovely to hear from you again but I am sorry you are feeling so sleepy. I agree with Folara, you have had major surgery, heavy sedation, you now have to recuperate and that takes time. It could also be that the surgery has triggered a flare-type of thing and that always makes one feel dozy. Rest as much as you need, sleep as much as you need, do your exercises sensibly, eat well and keep hydrated. I am sure you will soon begin to pick up and I wish you well. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Chris
Take a little comfort in the fact that the body does a lot of healing when we sleep. Its a big one to get over still early days, take all the good advice above too.
Good luck with the recovery.Ruby0 -
Hi Cris
The others are right....its major surgery and i didnt have GA ...I had a spinal block but it takes a long time to get rid of the tiredness.....sleep when you need to....I know...on your back is nigh on impossible. Is that poss why you are tired? Not sleeping at night? I know for the 6 weeks I barely slept at all.
(((((())))))

Hi
Thanks everyone for your replies and support, i will take your advice and sleep, I am having no problem sleeping on my back(very surprisingly) I am sleeping all night without waking and then on and off during the day. I will take solace in the fact that I am healing whilst sleeping. thank you all
