Hi

Ok ive got OA and im on meds for that and other things:

175mcg thyroxinne
10mg ramipril...blood pressure
citalopram...anti-depressant
150mg tramadol,slow release twice a day
20 mg nortriptylene at night....

I was on celebrex,10 days ago GP stopped this to try something new as i was in so much pain.

Im now on 50mg diclofelx 3 times a day, and im so tired that i keep having to go to bed in afternoon and early to bed at night to. In the morning i struggle (apart from the pain) to come to and get going.

Has this medication had this effect on anyone else?

Gill

    Hi Gill

    I know how you feel, I also have OA (both knees) and am taking;

    150mcg Thyroxine
    Methocarbamol
    Vascalpha - for BP
    Ramipril - for BP
    Co-Dydramol
    Paracetamol
    Tmolol - Eye drops
    Pilocarpine - Eye drops

I'm still working full time and feel the tiredness too.........i have to take my Methocarbamol or Co-Dydramol no later than 6 or 7pm or else it makes me dopey the whole of the next morning!
Cant manage withiut it though and have to rely on Paracetamol/ Ibuprofen to top me up during the day so i can at least function at work!

    best of luck x

I too am hypothyroid with OA - and also get very tired in the afternoons.. Not too sure whether its the condition, or meds, or just a combination...

Guess it's something I gotta live with

    Hi Gill

It is a challenge believe me! ;-)

Only downside is that when i get home i have virtually no energy left and as a consequence my days of being houseproud & OCD are over! :-)

I'm 62 and have OA in both knees. Take some pain killers but only Tramadol and paracetamol.

My wife is a bit younger than me and is diabetic and on insulin and other tabs.

We both get a 3pm slump and are really knackered, but have to keep going as we have two children (10 and 14).

I believe our pm tiredness is our age and the fact we are very busy during the day.

    Hi Gill,

Its evil isn't it?! I am never sure what is making me tired but something is and just now some of mine is drug related cus since they upped the oxy's i am either wired up and can't sleep or auditioning for the part of the dormouse again.....

I try to fight it but sometimes you have to give in to it as it gets you sort of unawares  I do this unscheduled armchair duties and it drives me mad as well as causes a lot of pain cus the chair isn't that comfortable.

I am lucky cus I am self employed but some days are just so hard and I feel like I have been filled up with concrete.

If its drug related it does normally sort out as you get used to it..... I keep telling my self that  I hope you have a decent night and tomorrow is kind to you. Cris x

I thnk it's a combination of the meds and the OA. When one is in constant pain every thing you do takes a much greater effort than for those without pain. The dullers themselves are opiates and thus have a sedating effect but if they are what you need to cope better with the pain then that is what has to be done. I too slump at about 3pm which is a blasted nuisance as I start work at 3.40! DD

    My meds.

    1 Ramopril 10mg daily
    1 Bendroflumethiazide 2.5mg daily
    Sulph 2 x 3 tablets (500mg) twice daily
    1 Citalopram 20mg daily
Folic Acid 1 tablet three days per week
1 meth imjection 15ml once weekly
1 Humira injection 40ml once fortnightly
    4 30/500 cocos daily.
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

I too believe it could be due to combination of meds and our conditions.
I have informed my Gp so that they are aware..

    I take:
    Lansaprazole
    Tramadol
    Gabapentin
    Naproxen
    Amitriptyline
    Calcichew
    Senokat
    Hydroxychloroquine
    VitaminB12 injections
    Steroid injects every 12 wks

Ah yes, the 3pm slump - I know it well :(
It was terrible when I was still working and all I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and go to sleep.

    Omeprazole 20 mgs 2 x daily
    Methotrexate 15 mgs weekly
    Hydroxychloroquine 200mgs daily
    Folic Acid 2 x weekly
Cocodamol 2 x 8/500 usually only at night
    Low dose Inhalers

I only really feel ‘sleepy tired’ during the day if I take a lot of paindullers or if I’m ill with a bad cold or something – or drink too much wine  I try not to take any paindullers during the day and, if I must, try to keep it to paracetamol. (I kind of know, now, when I can’t.) I can feel tired in the ‘exhausted joints and muscles’ sense but I don’t think that’s what you mean.

I think I’m extremely lucky in that I’ve never had a problem sleeping. When the kids were young and my RA and OA were at their combined worst, pre-TKRs, I was so shattered at night I slept regardless of pain. (Getting up was another story though  ) Now it’s unusual for me to have pain at night that won’t be solved by a couple of low strength cocos. I’m sure I’d feel much different during the day if I didn’t sleep well at night.

i know what you mean, I am constantly tired due to the medication, I take tramadol, cocodamol, diclofenic. I do find I am getting up at strange hours and having to sleep in the afternoon and off to bed early in the evening. I have never been a one for early nights so going to bed at 9.30 is a head mess...

I think with the strenght of these pills i kind of know what was coming.
