Ankle Replacement Surgery

I would like to estabish contact with anyone who has undergone ankle replacement surgery and reflect a ittle on the aftereffects and the longer term prognoses for recovery and mobility.
Having undergone such an operation about 9 months ago I am currently coming to terms with a less than welcome (and certainly unexpected) imapct upon my life and mobility.
Issues such as lack of mobility, excessive swelling and cronic pain from the ankle itself but also from the toes and lack of sensation and feeling in parts of the foot are those I am facing and would like to know how other people have fared, both in the short and longer term.

Hello ultraboxer and welcome to the forum. I've not had ankle surgery. My own have fused but they did it all by themselves  I found one thread about foot surgery which I've bumped up for you. In it - towards the end - prefabkid47 talks of his ankle replacement surgery. I don't think he's been on here for a while but you could try PMing him. Also, if you enter 'ankle replacement' in the AC search engine, you may find others come up. I'm sorry you're having problems with yours and I hope things improve for you.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi stickywicket..thank you for the immediate reply. As a newcomer to the forum can you tell me how to view the item you have "bumped up" for me please and how to "PMing" the writer ?0

Ah yes, I do apologise, ultraboxer. We forum veterans are apt to forget how mysterious it all looks at first
You will see that a reply to a thread brings that thread up to the top, behind the ‘stickies’ which are always at the top because they continue to be very useful to a lot of people. Other threads eventually disappear onto page 2….then 3….etc etc but, if someone thinks they might be useful to another member, we find such a thread and, simply by writing on it (usually ‘bumping this up for….’) it brings the thread back to the front page. The one I have bumped up is entitled ‘foot surgery’ by Maria09.
A PM is a Private Message. When you log in you’ll see a row of buttons near the top including one which says ‘new messages’. Click on it to find any PMs to yourself or to send them. Any PM you ‘send’ stays in your outbox until the person you’ve sent it to logs in and so picks it up. I hope this was helpful but, if not, keep asking. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Hi Ultraboxer
This is prefabkid,my OH has just picked up your posting, unfortunately haven't been on here for a while, life has been so manic (it's a full time job being retired!!).
Had my ankle replacement done on the 2nd of June last year.Get occasional discomfort if I over do things but generally it has changed my life.Prior to the op could only walk a few yards and the pain was chronic.
Have full sensitivity in the foot and ankle and although movement is about 70% compared to my 'good' ankle walking generally presents no problem though have to be a bit cautious when walking on rough ground.
Have done walks of 2-3 miles and about 2hrs duration.Do have slight swelling of the ankle but this has decreased over time.Due to have my 12 month ckeck-up in about 3 weeks time.
Sorry you are having a few problems, though surgeon did tell me that I wouldn't get the full benefit of the op for 12-18 months. Please feel free to contact me anytime either on the forum or direct. Will PM you in case you miss my post.
Regards
