Support tights any good?

Hi,
My girlfriend has just been diagnosed with arthritis in her hip. She is 37, about 5 foot 9 inches tall, with quite slim hips but full, strong legs.
She has been told to start doing certain exercises and look into different shoes as she's apparently lost over 50% of her muscle strength in her hip (only one is affected).
I'm told that support tights may help her - both generally and at work (she has to stand at work a lot as she works in retail). Is this true? If so, what brands? A lady I've worked with for years said she finds silkies very good.
What is the medical evidence for support tights in helping arthritis and do any members have any experiences they can share?
Thanks !

Don't think there's a great deal of medical evidence but I wear ones made by Orublu when I know I will have to stand for any time.
I get mine from a great website called uktights.

I thought support tights were worn to help with varicose veins, aching legs, swollen ankles or similar. There are different deniers too. Support stockings can be prescibed by the GP in certain circumstances, or used to be anyway. I would not have thought support tights/stockings would help with arthritis of the hip but don't quote me on that.

I was also going to mention.... in certain medical conditions your GP can prescribe....
It might be worth asking - if you don't ask you don't get... the worst they can say is NO... so worth a try...
Otherwise, maybe go to your local chemist / pharmacist and ask their advise..
good luck..hugs freesia xxx0
