Hello

I saw my consultant last week and we discussed getting pregnant. She mentioned coming off the methtrexate (for 6 months) and see how i get on pain wise. She told me that if i was having problems i could be put on sulphasalazine. Whilst on this i can get pregnant. After leaving the consultation room i thought to myself, "why arent all women put on sulphasalazine if they are thinking about possibly having a child at some point..?"
Is this a blase attitude? Am i missing something? Maybe sulphasalazine doenst calm the pain as much as the methotrexate?

Ive been reading these forums for a while and been speaking to people on methotrexate having families and i havent come across this.

I didnt take my injection this week so my 6 months has begun. Fingers crossed my body can cope!!

Regards
Marshmallow :D

    Hi Marshmallow

I think that Sulfa is quite possibly thought to be less effective than the MTX is.

BUT some people are much better when they are pregnant so maybe you will be one of the 'lucky' ones.

good to know there is a back-up plan though isn't it?

Are you starting to get exited now? :D I am and it's not even me after a baby!!

    Love

This is something that I have discussed with my husband and my consultant and its a very personal thing to decide to come of the Meth, personally I have decided not to come of the Meth because my RA is progressive.

I do hope that it works out for you.

    Best of luck.

Thanks Toni, yes i am getting excited!! Like you say it is good to know there is a back up, even though it may not be as effective as MTX.

Thanks Debra, i agree, everyone is different. Ive learned that from joining this forum.
