Finger pain

Hi all,
I have some sort of arthritis in my fingers - I don't have a firm diagnosis because I have so much else going on, healthwise, the doctors have sort of given up. We know I haven't got RA, however.

In short, my fingers really hurt and my hands are stiff, but most disturbing of all, I keep getting this *severe*, sort of stabbing, throbbing pain in my ring finger (both hands but the right is worst). The finger is also slightly bent and the knuckle swollen, but not severely, and the skin is sort of 'shiny'. There's a lump on the bone, between the two end joints, as if the bone itself was bent (which is possible as I've had a bone disease called osteomalacia - adult rickets, which has now been treated).

Most of the time my hand is just stiff and achey, but I'm on painkillers and it's not a huge problem, but this 'break through' pain keeps happening and it takes my breath away. I tend to sort of 'jazz hands' to make the pain go away but I really don't know what to do about it.

Can anyone relate, and if you do, what do you do about it? I cope OK with the chronic joint pain I have, but this finger pain is something else.

    Hi Annah

    You poor thing!

I hate stabbing pains. they are so difficulat to cope with as they make you jump dont they? Lucky for me they have never 'stayed with me' for long :?

I was just looking at Bertyboys post and wonder if you could be referred to a pain clinic too like she is? The only reason l suggest it is that they are the pain 'experts' and surelu the best to try to help?

Any way hopefully someone else will be along soon with some better advice

    Love

Unfortunately, round here pain clinics are only accessible via consultant referrals, but the only consultant I see now is my endocrinologist, and he can't refer me as he's the 'wrong' specialty. My GP isn't allowed to refer me, although he's tried.
