Senna tablets

Do any of you use senna tablets for constipation?
I asked the GP to try something different on my repeat prescription form as I have had unpleasant side effects from lactulose & laxido. I was surprised to find a box of senna tablets in the bag when I got my repeat prescription.
Not taken any yet. Any one got any experiences to share? Good or bad!

I tried these years ago (I bought them) and nothing happened. I think I took them for about three days but not one squirt. I then turned to syrup of figs and never looked back (so to speak). The trouble is everyone is different and you never know, these may be the very ones for you: I wish you well and I hope they work. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. I take Senna tablets 2 in the morning & 2 in the evening, I use them along with Lactulose liquid when I'm well and truely bunged up. The senna helps things move along nicely. You need to use Senna regulary to work otherwise nothing happens. Hope that helps you.0

I used to take Senna. I found they were great for acute constipation but after a while they stopped being effective. I took them with Lactulose for a while but I can't take the latter for more than a few days as it's so sickly and makes me feel awful.
I find Marcogol (sp?) a good laxative. You mix it with water and drink, tastes gross but if you have an aniseed ball first it's drinkable.0 -
Senna are useless youre better off upping your fruit and veg intake that way its more natural and less wasteage...

I take two senna every evening.... they are very gentle.... Depending on the extent of "the problem" you might need an additional item to help, when times are bad for me when I take codeine, I also take docusate sodium as well as the Senna - That does the trick....!!
Good Luckhugs freesia xxx0 -
I take them too, my gp also added Docusate sodium. I'm veg and try to have my 5 a day (but you know how it is somedays you just don't want to eat). Drinking lots of water helps me too.0

Urgh that laxido is totally gross. It makes me sick so I've stopped taking it and buy sennakot senna tablets from the chemist as they are cheaper than a prescription.
I do find I have to be a little careful as they can upset my IBS a bit and then I go the other way :?
Years ago there was a chocolate that was a laxative but I can't seem to find it now. Was brilliant stuff and tasted ok too lol

i tried senna and it didnt work and then tried lactalouse and that didnt help either but eating fresh fruit helps and i do still find it difficult at times sometimes taking books to read in the proccess i understand what ur going through or not in this case but ask you gp for something else that might suit you good luck0

I am also a Veggie and have found things much better since I ditched meat at the end of May last year. Once I was off the Dihydrocodeine as well, and on to Tramacet, Amitriptyline and Fluoxetine I found it's been even better.0
