Fainting

Hi not been on for a while.

Just wondered if anyone has had a similar experience to mine.

3 weeks ago my painkillers were changed from co codamol to tramadol.

I took them as necessary on the first day - 4 in total - and felt fine.

During the night, I got up to go to the loo as normal and fainted. When I came round I had somehow injured my right foot and right knee (on which I am having an arthroscopy in 3 weeks time!) I got back into bed and managed to sleep off and on for the rest of the night. When I got up the next morning, my knee was very swollen but my foot had ballooned in size and I looked like elephant woman.
I went to minor injuries and had it x rayed but no break.

Now, 3 weeks down the line the swelling has not gone down at all, my foot is swollen, hot, red and VERY painful. My GP now thinks it may be inflammatory arthritis or gout!!!!! So have today had blood tests to check this out.
I have been signed off work for 2 weeks, I cannot get any shoes at all on that foot - not even slippers and I am elevating it as best I can!
Has this ever happened to anyone else? If so - what was the outcome?

Teresa

When urinating your blood pressure drops and this can lead to fainting - I remember a doctor in A&E telling me this the morning after I did the same thing. You certainly sound as though you have injured your foot and I hope they can find out what the trouble is. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Blood pooling in the injured foot can cause there to be insufficient blood in your brain - your body tries to sort this out by making you lie down i.e. faint.

It's a problem I have chronically, as a result of my connective tissue condition. But in your case, I expect its a temporary problem. In the meantime, be especially careful on stairs. And do let your doctor know this is happening to you.

I really hope they get to the bottom of it ASAP - it sounds excruciating.

Thank you everyone - it is so annoying- and to top it all work are 'on my back' about how much time I have had off in the last 3 years.

I have tried pointing out that THR, labral repair, foot injury and inflammatory arthritis and arthroscopy are not things I have entered into for fun - or to get a bit of time off work.

Still - I am being re-referred to occupational health - so watch this space
