Im having a total hip replacement in a few weeks & Im terrified. I cannot carry on as I am though, severe posterior osteoarthritis & virtually unable to work & life really is difficult at the moment.
Will I be pain free after my operation & how long is recovery ?
I worried about coping after the operation , my husband & teenage children will help me , but I know its going to be a big shock to them , having to do so much. I havent been able to do much at home for months & so much needs to be done & its driving me mad, seeing jobs left & the house dirty. I feel so fed up & down.

Hi,
it's worth every moment of the recovery time.!!!!!!!!
After 6 weeks you should be more or less fine with a few restrictions re crossing your legs and bending at 90 degrees.
It's my second one on the same side and it's actually been an easier recovery even though it was complicated by a bone graft (long long story).
Please do not worry. Anything is better than the constant pain of before the op.
Good luck.0 -
Hi
Yes 6 weeks is the main time....that you can do very little and have to sleep on your back. My OH is great but doesnt see things I would see {I dont consider I'm particularly houseproud } and it used to almost drive me mad. People kept saying ignore it, the dust only gets to a certain level then doesnt get any worse People come to see you not your house etc. After the 6 weeks you are back to normal within reason

Hi
My dad had his done 7 years ago and he is now out of pain, has had some bursitis pain in past few months but think thats just a little blip...
He managed very well after the op although found and still does find putting on socks for some reason difficult.....He needed chair raisers, perching stool to wash and had stick too but the recovery was pretty quick, 6-8 weeks....
Its natural to be worried before an operation but it sounds like youve got great support around you...
