Has anyone tried acupuncture for RA?
I have it in my hip, but it affects my back, and its getting the best of me. I feel so rubbish very day, I just want to find something that will ease off all the aches and pains.
It's not cheap, so I don't want to try it unless someone can recommend it?
Thanks

I know that some on here have tried it and have reported varying levels of success. It's like everything to do with arthritis and its treatment, what works for one may not for another and there is really only one way to find out. If you decide to try it I hope you find some benefit. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Sheenie
The problem is that acupuncture works for some people and not for others, unless you try you will not know. It also depends on whom you see too. Best to get a recommendation if possible. It is expensive, you are right. GPs used to be able to refer you for around 6 sessions of acupuncture but probably do not these days because of cost.

Yeah the price is my worry. I really don't have much money and trying to find something to help my back that is free, is totally impossible!!0

Have your asked your gp if he is able to refer you for a course of acupucture?
Have you been referred to a pain clinic, they do more than just dish out meds. I have had injections by xray direction in my lower back and shoulder via the pain clinic that have helped me greatly, I am talking a few years, not months or weeks. I presume it is your hip problem that is giving you back problems like your knee pain. It is the way you are walking probably. Would physio help, this can be got on the NHS for sure.

I used to have Battlefield acupunture (pins in your ears!) and it worked for me for about 6 months but in the end the effects wore off. anything is worth a try.

Hi
Yes I had acupuncture on the NHS ....I had 2 sessions of 6 weeks each.
It did help but not enough apparently for them to justify keeping on doing it.
Ask for a referral first {before going private} It was my physiotherapist who was trained in it that suggested it.
I would have been prepared to keep on having it because it did help to a degree but I suppose because of the money angle they had to say no after a while because it wasnt taking the pain away completely What does???
By the way its OA I have...... in hips and spine.....at least if you only got one session you would know whether it helped or not before handing out some money privately.
