Hi - apologies for not having been around ...

...but I've been in a new job which I've been struggling with. I'm currently off sick for a variety of reasons which I won't go into here (very, very long story!).

In April, my 87 yr old dad had a TKR but he's done fantastically well. He had a 90 degree bend the day after the op, discharged at 5 days and now at 5.5 weeks post-op is only using a stick at times. We got him a 4-wheeled walker due to his spinal arthritis and that's helping to keep him more upright when he's out and about, but if it wasn't for his spinal OA I don't think he'd need that.

I apologise if I've missed any pocket duties but I've not been able to log on regularly due to my new job, the fact I've been struggling with it and my current OA flare which is going great guns at the moment!

Anyway, I'm sure it'll all get better - what's the words of that song? "Things can only get better ..."

Will log on again tomorrow to catch up with the gossip. Good to see familiar names still on here, and welcome to the newbies!

Take care,
Grace.

No need to apologise at all, GraceB. I remember how you were looking forward to the new job so I'm sorry there have been a few problems and I do hope the OA gives you a break asap.

Fantastic news about your Dad. It sounds like the op went really well but he must be a bit of a battler too to make it go as well as this at his age. All power to his elbow - and other bits that help.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

HI, I'm glad your Dad is doing so well after his op and that until the flare things have been going well for you! I expect your Dad's op caused a bit of extra worry and stress for you which can't have done the oa any good. Now things are getting better, I hope you have a chance to rest and take it easy. Now is your time to recoperate! Take care! Love to you and your Dad, Suexxx

Thanks everyone. It's fantastic knowing that the support is there.

Yeah - I agree my dad is wonderful bless him. He's cross at the moment though (picture Mr Angry crossed with Victor Meldrew) as he's got a very peculiar rash on both his legs which the GP cannot identify. We're not sure if it's scabies or an allergy. The hospital say it hasn't come from them but last week he had a call from them asking if he was okay and did he have a rash. The following day the rash started ... Concincidence or what, hey?

He did, however, wash his TED stockings in hand soap and then soaked them in fabric conditioner which, of course, you're not meant to do. However, he does wonderfully well the majority of the time and if you consider he's partially sighted too due to glaucoma that makes what he does manage to do even more remarkable.

As for me, well I feel a tad better today but cannot face returning to my job. What makes it so sad is that in my previous role I had wonderful support and this support shold have continued in my new one. In reality that's not proved to be the case. Unfortunately, I can't prove that their attitude to me is linked to the disability but I somehow suspect that it is.

I'm currently awaiting another role to be allocated to me by HR and am also considering working either 4 days per/week or term time only in order to make life easier for me.

In the meantime, I'm trying not to worry too much and just accepting that some things are meant to be.

It's sunny here in the South East of England and I hope that some of you are likewise seeing a bit of the sun too.

Take care everyone and thanks again.
    Grace.

No need to apologise Hun. Sorry that you are having problems with your new job, such a shame but excellent to hear your Dad is getting on so well.

If it makes it easier then drop down to less hours, your health is always more important.

    Hugs,

    Fols x

thanks Fols. Whatever happens I just cannot face going back to the job I'm currently off sick from as they've treated me so badly. I can't go into the 'whys and wherefore's' on here - just in case it's seen locally - but suffice it to say I had confidence, self esteem and good feelings of self worth - now they've all gone.
Since Friday afternoon last week I've been an absolute emotional mess, and I just want to move on now to another department where my skills will be appreciated and valued.
Take care of yourself amnd look after your joints,
    Grace

Oh grace just seen you next post....

Flower I hope something can be worked out and am so sorry they have done you so much damage! You need this time off flower and you need to rest and try not to stress so saying how bad it is might help and maybe you can do it via pm so you can say just how horrible they have been. I wish it could be a real one but a cyber ((((( ))))) and grace you are a better person than the ones that have made you feel so bad. Hang in there Cris xx
