Costochondritis Pain?

Hi everyone
I have had Costochondritis about 3 months ago which was the 'typical' stabbing pain on the left side of my chest and very tender ribs. Yesterday when I was rushing to collect my daughter from school and pushing my toddler in the pushchair (all up hill) I started with really really intense pain in my chest. This time however it was on the right side and was at the bottom of my ribs/very top of my abdomen.....(It wasnt a stitch) It hit me from nowhere and I felt quiet queezy with it. I had to walk REALLY slowly to get the kids home and kept having to stop as breathing deeply hurt.
Thankfully about 40mins after getting home and sitting down the pain stopped. It went almost as quickly as it arrived. Then later in the bath ...about 9pm it started again with the same intense pain. I took some painkillers and luckily fell asleep.
Today the pain as eased and I just feel very tender in the chest area and feels like its burning when I breath.
Does this new pain sound like Costochondritis? Can it effect the right side/upper right abdo? When I got home yesterday I rang a walk-in centre to see how long they were open and they said it was just for emergencies as the pain had gone I couldnt go as they wouldnt have seen me in the pain etc.
Today the pain isnt intense enough to see the doctor as its bearable without painkillers.....I dont like to take painkillers and tend to plod along.
Any advice if this sounds like Costochondritis or anything else id appreciate.

Just a thought, but if you're on NSAIDS for the pain, you could get stomach problems (acid reflux) which can cause that - even on ibuprofen, I get that after about three days. Lots of people don't realise how high up the stomach actually is on your body - its practically in your ribs.
Or the costochondritis has moved. Either way, you ought to go back to your doctor about it.0 -
That sounds awful and I think this is a thing your GP needs to know about, whether the pain is there or not. I hope you are able to get to see him/her soon. DDHave you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben0

Hi Lulu
I think as the others have said, get an emergency appointment for today at your docs. If anything it will put your mind at rest.
Good luck and let us know.

Hi everyone
Thanks for the replies. Im not on any painkillers so cant blame any new medication or changes to medication.
So far today just feel like an annoying niggle, nothing really painful. Ill see how it is when im pushing the pushchair uphill for the school run later. If it hurts then then id have thought it be more chest pain related then stomach.
Tried to get an appointment with the doc's for my daughter this week as she has really bloodshot eyes and first appointment could get is this fri so dont think ill get in before. Hard for me to say its an emergency as when the pain has subsided its like nothing it wrong.

Lulu,
tell the receptionist that you've been having chest pain. Don't go into details - just say that you have been having chest pain and leave it at that.
Any receptionist worth their salt should get you in ASAP - no, I don't think you're having a heart attack, but she/he doesn't know that!
GPs have to leave appointment space free for emergencies.0 -
Hi, just a thought, but have you tried ringing NHS direct for advice? They are usually pretty good about whether it's somethig that needs a doctor asap, or to treat with over the counter remedies.
Hope it gets better soon.
