:? Just when you think you've got it sorted....
I have been doing very well since going on Humira, generally fab in fact . At my 6 month review I was told if I kept going this way I would be heading for remission.

I had a bit of a set back after some nasty chest infections but was still doing ok. Stress has always been a big trigger for flares and god I've had it in spades the past 3 months. Redundancies at work, not me, but almost everybody else :(, means more work, more chasing ever elusive clients, dealing with the fallout from those who have lost their jobs (not everybody took it well) - small company, it's been stressful and personal, we've all been here forever. I've also been dealing with dodgy builders at home, yes as a construction professional I should have known but still have had to sort out the associated destruction he's caused. My son had an operation, all fine but still stressful. I've also had a falling out with family and have been trying to sort out new childcare arrangements once school starts in Sept (turns out this is impossible).

Too much stress for three months, good news though is that despite all this, i've only had a few off days, aches and pains and a bit of fatigue, the RA is seemingly pretty much under control - half this stress would have previously floored me!
Bad news is I've developed a new pain. One side only - A very loud and excruciating clunking hip, continuous mid level hip pain (standing, sitting, getting up and lying down) and referred knee pain. Rheumy agrees with me it's probably not the RA (it's one sided and doesn't accompany a flare - I have practice with all this RA diagnosis malarkey after 14yrs) but isn't sure what, said something about cartilage damage - getting sent for a MRI sometime in next 6wks to see if can see what.
Just wondering if anybody had anything similar and any suggestions to alleviate the pain as after 2months its now getting me down, pain is making me feel a bit sick all the time and I've still got to hold down a FT job and look after an active nearly 4yo.
I'm already on Anti inflammitories, painkillers, MTX & Humira for the RA
Help please
Chrissie

    Hi Chrissie,

hell that's some 3 months you have had but glad your son is ok. Stress is, as you know, one of our worst enemies eh?!

The hip thing is about all you needed to turn isn't it? Chrissie I have 2 hips that used to do that.... Its oa in my case and it might be worth seeing if wither your rumo or gp would get it x-rayed maybe? Least them you would know if it was bone or not.

Mine go sore to the touch as well and now they have fused up a bit and hurt a lot less though both have limited movement the are not too bad but I might have been lucky and they sure hurt a lot in their time.....

I think you do need them x-rayed though to make sure its not bone and if its not they have to come up with what's going on.....

I hope things get a lot easier for you, the ra stays under control and most of all that the hip will stop hurting very soon. Cris x

    Thanks for the replys
I think its so infuriating as I can't think straight as i'm in medium level pain pretty much constantly and the painkillers aren't touching it but also its weird as the rest of me is pretty great which I'm not used to.
Just would love to be able to find one position when it doesn't hurt so much as its so wearing just a bit of temporary relief would go a long way

    Thought i'd post an update
Hip pain has been getting progresively worse and was getting very wearing. I went for MRI 3 weeks ago and was waiting for an appointment to discuss findings, when on Sunday I got acute scream out loud pain when I tried to stand up from the dining room table.

It was painful and impossible to bear any weight on that leg
I phoned my consultant on the monday when still in unbearable pain, which painkillers did nothing to ease and waited for a callback. Got an urgent appointment for today. Meanwhile i've been hobbling about on my walking stick (which I had to take out of retirement) so I could get on with work and looking after my son (why can't the world just stop and give me a rest for 5mins  )
Go to the appointment and dr says he thinks its a tear in the hip joint and I need a hip arthroscopy. There is little he can do to relieve it now except prescribe stronger pain relief & has put me on crutches. I have to take it easy (Hahahahaha I have a 4yo) and not put too much weight on it.Now just got to wait for the refferal

Work have decided they are going to take it in turns to give me piggy backs up the stairs as our office is upstairs, and since we made our last round of redundencies we are on skeleton staff so taking time off is difficult. They have been good in letting me work from home etc and I do prefer to be busy but i'm finding it all very tiring and i'm hopeless at pacing myself ( I know after 14yrs of RA I should have got the hang of this but I haven't).

I've got holiday booked in two weeks so I should get some rest then, just hadn't planned on the whole rigmarole of going to the airport with crutches
