Oh JAJA that's such a nightmare. I remember when I was taken off diclofenac and it was replaced with ibuprofen at massive dosage it wasn't the same. It's rediculous cos the diclofenac worked and I had no problems with it. The ibuprofen is in such a huge dose I have to take extra omeprazole AND nasty gaviscon.

They must be able to give you something and not fob you off to go see pharmacist etc.

    Fols x

I'm so sorry that you have this to cope with along with everything else.

I can't help you with similar meds, but the link to the EMC medcinei guides (above) is a good one ...... my GP and I only know what we know about two of my (consultant prescribed) meds by studying the drug information on that site !!

good luck and please as has already been said, don't buy off the internet as they were saying on a programme only a few days ago that up to 80% of prescription only meds that are bought without prescription over the internet turn out to be fake :o

Have they been discontinued or unlicensed and excuse me for not knowing difference...I know i take co-proxamol and they are unlicensed and I get questioned, my doctor also has said that if i decided to commit suicide then she would be justified in prescribing them for me as they work for me when a lot of other things dont...

I don't know if they're still around but many, many years ago, when I first started having stomach problems with NSAIDS, I was given Indomethacin (Indocid) as a suppository. It worked OK on the days when my hands worked well enough to shove it where the sun don't shine.

Don't know if this is the case with your meds, but a lot of the smaller pharmaceutical companies have gone under or have reduced their products, due to the recession. It's a real pain (literally). That's as well as new guidelines coming out about the risks of old drugs we perhaps didn't know about before.

My GP says that more and more drugs are being labelled as consultant prescription only. I don't know if that's just in my area, but he seemed to think it was a more common problem generally. I had to go to the hospital pharmacy the other day, for one of my meds, which the consultant had prescribed but I couldn't get in an ordinary chemists. Mega inconvenient.

Personally, I suspect this is a lot to do with their being less money around in the NHS, and in pharmacies. Which doesn't help you much, I know, but at least you know you're not alone.

Hi everyone....first thanks for all your support and comments....the keto is not comming into country anymore...its purely that its considered an old fashioned med and theres not much call for it as diclofenac seems to be the order of the day (though fols you were taken off that???)

hi eileen no its not been de-lisenced or anything and is still available in capsules...iv spoken to my consultant about it and he wasnt much use. ...

But...doc just given me two presciptions...diclofenac...and...indocid..which sticky mentioned..thanks sticky...

took the diclo 10mins ago...now sitting in anticipation!!!

It is a nightmare, you find summat that you like and that suits and they take it away. I had that with celebrex, an anti-inflammatory, I was taken off that due to cost and put on naproxen and tummy-protector all to no avail, no reduction in pain whatsoever but I was comforted by the knowledge that I was saving my GPs money. Diclofenac however - wonderful! So wonderful in fact I ration my intake as the experience of feeling a direct benefit is rather lovely. I hope this new combo helps you Jaja, and that you feel it helping matters sooner rather than later. Thanks dreamdaisy....i think doctors need to save their money dont they...where would they get enough for their new cars every year??? and personalised number plates..(as in my last doc case)...when i needed some extra help with pain a few weeks ago one of the docs in the practice said i could have some paracetamol (as a suppository)when she looked it up she actually said OMG outloud at the cost...then appologised but then suggested useing normal paracetamol (as a suppository)!!!

of course i declined and she then wrote me out a presciption for 10!!! i felt most embarased...like i was really costing alot....Iv always had exspensive tasts..lol..
