Hot weather - good or bad for arthritis?

It is worse when I'm sitting there, lathered, in blouse and trousers and with sweaty feet cos I can't walk without my surgical shoes and can't use them without socks, while Mr SW sits in his shorts. That's it. Just shorts. Eventually he'll say it's getting cooler. Will he put on a shirt? No, he'll make to close a window
I thought it might be interesting to see if it's just us auto-immune types who are worse in the heat. Maybe others find it helpful.
So, which is it for you?
I Gotta admit, I hate this weather. It makes me tired and I ache more. Then I can't sleep cos its too hot, so I'm more tired and I ache even more. It's a vicious circle, and I wish it would SNOW!!!!!!0 -
Hi Sticky.
I'm a toofer. Got both types. The OA is always easier in the heat for me.. Still fairly new with the the auto business. Only had it a few yrs and we haven't really had too many great waves in that time haha... However things seem a little better, at least at the minute.. That could just be the latest steroid kicking in lol..

I find problems in the cold however sometimes okay in the cold it's not so much the actual temperature but the stress the temperature causes if I am relaxed in the cold or heat I will be fine.0

So, what do we conclude?
Only, I suspect that either (a) There are more people with auto-immune arthritis on these forums than people with OA or (b) People with auto-immune arthritis are more likely to subject themselves to polls than those with OA.
All I know personally is that today’s temperature (18-20) was lovely. My fingers and ankles feel like they belong to me again – well, they did until we got the wine bottle out.If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

a wonderful conclusion then. Sticky's fingers were hers again till the plonk lol
:crI'm still loving the heat never had too much in the way of swelling (behave people  lol) but it seems to have calmed down with the heat? Strange but pleasantly strange..Me-Tony

I have both types like a lot of us so haven't voted Wonder if that's why it seems heavier as far as inflammatory is concerned??? Peple had to opt for one or t'other???
I think it helps in some ways and worsens it in others. This may depend on which type it is....
Interesting poll though thanks
Love

I had my knee totally replaced so im told it was OA but the rest is RA, the weather is gorgeous however i'm indoors i cant stand getting to hot as i cant cool down quick enough, I have reynaulds and have freezing cold hands on very hot days
my fingers toes and feet in general and my sandals once taken off wont go back on so no beach for me (i live in Brighton so lots of beach except no sand just pebbles) my feet swelled up badly when we flew into orlando last september couldnt get my sandal in my left foot, couldnt walk as it was twice the size of the other foot....
so not sure where i would fit into this..lollove and hugs0 -

So have I. Maybe I should have worded things differently. I think of myself as RA. The OA came as a result of the RA and I didn't even know I had it until they said I needed new knees. (I just thought the RA in my knees was a **** ) All my big joints have been replaced so I still think of myself as more-or-less just RA. I shall have to brush up on my poll-devising skills
Liesa - it might be that you're like me ie the RA caused the OA which led to the surgery. Just a thought. If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Bumped up for Rick0

Thanks for the 'bump' Hileena
I've not voted yet as i'm new to this lark and i've not been fully diagnosed to what form of arthritis I have yet.
Having had a sudden onset of pain starting 3 weeks ago i've obviously been in severe discomfort until the steroids kicked in during the lovely spell of warm weather. Yesterday was the best day i'd had and the weather was lovely, but today its pishing down and much cooler and all the old aches and pains are back
I was just interested in what had happened to others with weather change. I'll keep an eye on how it affects me and update when I know more......
Thanks, Rick.0 -
I can't vote because although I have arthritis I don't know what type it is yet. However what I can say is that cold and damp make things far worse for me. Guess what it's cold and damp today.I am not a complete idiot, some parts of me are missing!0

cant vote as i have multiple type of arthritis,
OA which hates the cold,
fibro which for pain side likes the heat but fatiuge side hates the heat
polyaralgia (sp) causes swelling with heat and extra pain with cold, so no matter what the weather im suffering.
looking at the possibility of ra as well oh joys , as if there aint enough
any ideas how i should vote0 -
well as one with auto (no name given yet) and oa in hands this cold damp has made me stiffen to such a state even tim man moveing better and faster than me heat might bring its probs but the cold damp worse by far valval0

I am OA (although physios/docs always suspect RA due to the link with my Raynauds but which never shows up on blood tests) and the cold makes me much, much worse. I suspect a lot of that is due to the Raynauds which makes me miserable and achey most of the time.
I have to say that my feet swell up badly in the heat lately, which they never used to do, my legs are skinny but my ankles are decidely chubby in the heat.0
