I was on it for a short while (pre RA) for depression and I found it gave me a good night of sleep even on a low dose. Unfortunately, I had a mini stroke around the same time and it scared me doctor into taking me off it just in case, although I am certain it wasn't that, please so don't be scared. I remember it helped my sleep more than my mood. Good luck, really hope it helps. Not sleeping seems to make everything more difficult, so I hope this drug helps you.

Quite a few people on here take that, SBolam, and yes it can help. Apparently the trick is to take the tablet/s quite early in the evening, somewhere between 7 and 8pm, that way they 'kick in' at bed time and don't leave one feeling all muzzy the next morning. I wish you well and I hope they help. DD
Have you got the despatches? No, I always walk like this. Eddie Braben

Amitriptyline is WONDERFUL.... In larger doses in can be used for depression but in smaller doses can be used for OA & pain....
I've recently been put on it, and I must say I am sleeping wonderfully AT LAST...

Needs to be taken around 8pm in the evening otherwise you might be drowsy in the morning (not sure if you need to get up for work... so be a little careful)

    Take Care....
