I arrived at the hospital feeling nervous but positive, the hospital transport driver was lovely got me signed in and found a spot where my wheelchair and I could wait, then asked if I was all right or if I wanted a drink of water which I happily excepted as my mouth felt like Gandi's flip flop!
I waited then my name was called and was greeted by a lovely Rhummy nurse we talked about how I've been and how swollen my feet where she took my blood pressure. Then I was sent out to wait again another 45mins mins acctually! Then eventually I was called to see the Rhummey Consultant. He asked my name, then we disscused my hands and wrists and I told him about the pain and pins & needles and how they had swelled up. Then he looked at them, then looked at a X Ray from 2009! There's nothing there he said. And I said what about the fact I can't get my rings off. the heat he said I would of excepted that if not for the fact I have had swollen hands for 2 years!! He looked over a couple of pieces of paper and said Ahh you've had pain in some lower parts of your body, and I explained what had happened in my past and he then found an X-Ray of my foot (I knew that was from when I broke my (Beckham Bone) you don't have Osteoporosis Mrs White you have general Arthritis!! Well I was so shocked my jaw must have hit the floor it took 2 mins before I asked well does that mean my meds will change oh no he said you stay on them. And then he sent me off for some blood tests and X Rays on my Hands and feet both of them,
I went to see the Rhummey nurse to have my blood taken and she saw I was a little dumb struck and asked what was up and I told her what the consultant said and she looked on the computer, and turned and said well I don't know where he got his info but it's all here in black & White you have Osteo-porosis! So at the moment my head is all over the place going to speak to my GP on Wednesday and see what is going on.

Oh I am so sorry you had such a horrible appointment Bubbadog. It's no wonder your head is all over the place after that and I think that your plan to speak to the GP next week is a good one. Just a shame that, with the bank holiday you have to wait til Weds - is there any possibility of a word with the GP on the phone today to try to set your mind at rest?

    Thinking of you.

so sorry to hear you have had such a bad experience with your consultant. if you are not completely satisfied, i would speak to your gp about it and tell them of your concerns.

my first consultant was a joke. he treated the appointment like a comedy show. probably trying to put me at ease but it just felt uncomfortable. he never sent for further appointments in 3 years, i had to make a review appointment myself only to be told nothing has changed.
i now have a new consultant and he is my new best friend. he is wonderful. so on the ball and quick to deal with my concerns and get tests and treatments arranged. ive done more with him in the last couple of week than my first consultant did in years.

i do hope you get to the bottom of it all and they give you some definate answers x

Massive hugs Amanda. My rheummy was also appaling. He sent me for full body scan (DEXA Scan), xray of hands and feet, blood tests and ultrasound of hands nad feet. His conclusion you have pain all over but apart from your knees it isn't arthritis. I saw a new GP beginning of May he has sent me to have an ultra sound of a lump in my arm which is causing shooting pains up my arm.

Oh Bubbadog, that sounds absolutely terrible!
I am so sorry you had such a rubbish appointment, with what sounds like a rubbish consultant!
The sooner you speak to your GP the better.

The GP idea is a good one. I guess it's a problem when you don't see the same rheumatologist regularly. They don't have time to read up all the notes and, as they are new, they don't remember you either. And of course, we only think of all the questions later. I think maybe ask your GP to arrange another appt, bubbadog, and explain why.
If at first you don't succeed, then skydiving definitely isn't for you.

Oh Amanda I am so sorry ,what ever is going wrong with the NHS, some people are getting brilliant care and others are not getting any...it should not be like this,I have just had an appointment with my consultant , and they had found a letter from last July saying I should have another epidural, they even tried to put the blame on my GP
If I were you I would get a long letter wrote, to complain about the consultant and to ask to see another one.
    Good Luck with everything xx
    Love
