Hi

Just thought id say that my dad who has had a THR and TKR (7 and 4 years ago) plus bursitis of his hip has had his blue badge renewed which is a pleasant surprise. He had put in his application in late too as he couldnt find a signatory so ended up being 3 weeks late of the deadline.
I had heard of many getting turned down for their renewal of blue badges and we didnt hold out much hope for myself and dad. Just hope my application is successful in September this year as i need TKR and have bursitis of my hip also...

A little bit of good new folks eh?

Good news, Elaine, and thanks for sharing it. It's not often we hear good BB news so it has its rarity value too :)

    Hi Elaine
That is good news, like you say we cant take anything for granted any more, and the badge is such a big help.
    Love

It is good to hear some good news.
My partner has a indefinate DLA award - jolly good. But, my local council is now charging £10 per blue badge, and they will only issue it for 3 years. I know it sounds petty - but I'd love some joined up thinking on these things. Blue badges £10, council members and the great & good in my city park for free - ok sliding off my soapbox...have a good weekend.

That is good news Elaine. I hope that makes you feel more encouraged towards your own application.

    Hi Del, Mig & Stephen

It is good news as had heard of so many people on here and in our local paper getting turned down for having more problems than myself and dad...It is kind of piece of mind though I mean he does struggle to get out of the car so glad..

    Hi Mouseymousey

I didnt know the badges could get issued for more than 3 years so thats news to me..Also I think all councils in england certainly are charging £10, thats what dad paid so its good to know its not just in your area....I dont think £10 is a lot for this as we only previously paid £2.00...

My DLA was stopped, I heard that you can still get BB through your GP is that right? (am in Scotland btw) Our council charges £20 for it, when I was on DLA I thought this was okay as that is what the money should be used for. I don't mind still paying for it as would be lost at times if couldn't use my BB. :D

    Hi Rallymad

I dont know about GP i just asked my county council about it and three years ago only had to answer about 6 questions....Now its an ATOS style form and the charge in england is £10...Im not on DLA on ESA and dont mind paying at all but not confident I will get a renewal...

I do mind paying £10 from every BB holder every 3 years is quite an ammount! Here our local councillors and council great and good have awarded themselves free parking and spaces in the middle of town.

    Hi MM

Oh well we will have to disagree here as cant change councillors things etc, its like politicians who get certain rights.....As said before I dont mind paying that for piece of mind I can get parked safely and manage to get to places where dont have to walk far and can open doors wide enough.....
Everyone is entitled to their opinion...

    Hi Elaine
Will contact them and see what they say, like yourself I don't mind paying for it as it makes it safer for us to get closer to where we are going............doesn't stop folk looking at you as though you have two heads for parking in a disability bay......not all of our disabilities are visible!! :P

    Hi Rallymad

Oh yes and cos im 43 I get out of my car, then they see my stick and my limp but still get the dirtiest of looks...Even when went to cinema got a comment when asked for seating that had extra legroom 'oh is that all thats wrong with, you dont look old enough' (said i needed a new knee).
The payment thing, well id rather spend a tenner on a blue badge than on other things i dont need, my badge is precious..

    Good luck with your application...
