I've never had much joy from steroid jabs, for some they work wonders, for others they do a little but for me they never lived up to the promise, maybe just three slightly easier days and that was that. They can take time to kick in and I hope it does for you soon.

You do get used to living with the pain (or rather you have to get used to it!), pain relief is all well and good but it only ever blunts the sharper edges. What are you taking to help with pain? DD

Hi Dreamdaisy, thanks for the reply 8)
I personally think the steroid jab was similar to you, helped for a day or two then is not doing much. Trouble is the pain i've been in has been severe, I can't stand for more than 5 minutes at a time and it takes me that time to walk the 6 or 7 yards to the loo! I'm on cocodomol at the moment 2x15mg 4 times a day. I've now been on steroids for 4 weeks and there is no sign of the swelling going down in my joints (left ankle, right knee, left elbow, left hand, and toes of both feet). If I could just get some relief for a few hours, its just constant

It is difficult, the pain can be unrelenting, it grinds away at one and it is very wearing. The dullers do remove the sharper edges but that's it. You are in the very early stages of this and it is a steep learning curve, mine came on over years so the adjustment was easier. Keep up with the dullers as they have a cumulative effect, I can no longer stand still for a minute without it all kicking off - my daily shower is a trial but a necessary one. I hope that once you get on the meth or whatever is mooted - and maybe an anti-inflammatory too - that things begin to ease and life becomes a little more comfortable for you. Thanks Dreamdaisy,
I feel i've put up with a lot of pain in the last 5 weeks, whatever they gave me has not worked and its getting me down now. If only I could get something to take the edge off the pain and let me get just half comfortable for a few hours. Not sleeping due to the pain isn't helping things either. Time to see the doc again me thinks and do some (metaphorical) jumping up and down to get something done.

    Hi rkid.
Hope they manage to get you some relief and fast.. Not an easy thing sometimes I'm afraid..
I don't remember being without pain now  How ridiculous is that..
Maybe they can give you some EDGE trimmers for the edge?
    Best of luck

    Thanks Tony 8)
I can put up with a fair amount of pain, I've suffered with my back since I fell from a scaffold when I was 17 and that was 24 years ago, but this is something else, relentless. Yes if they could just take the edge off the pain so I could get half comfortable in a chair or in bed for a few hours it would be something.
BTW, hope you're feeling much better now mate, rubbish ending to your holiday

This is indeed a different kind of pain. I have 30/500 cocodamol and they blunt enough but for the really tough times I have tramadol 50mg and slow-release 100 mg. It's nice to know they're there but I am a stubborn old mare - if I can manage without I will. Despite what people think they know of me I don't often hug men I don't know so brace yourself mate: {{{}}} DD (Thems hugs for boys, girl hugs are not so spiky. )

Thanks Dreamdaisy, but mind me sore bits

Thanks for the info, maybe i'll ask about the Tramadol, sounds like what I might need at the moment just to take that edge off it.

    Cheers, Rick xx

It's good to know that the 'big boys' are there if needed and I am fortunate in that I can cope with the trammies (I think they are in the opiate class of drugs). I apologise for squashing any sore bits. DD
