The trial run was a great success, now it's starting for real. I send my thanks to each and every one of you, I am very excited - the butterflups are getting bigger! I've decided against tarting up the sticks - I looked at the website of where we are going tonight and realised that that kinda thing may not go down too well. I'm also leaving the tassels at home. I've just downed another diclo and I am already moving more easily. It's lovely.

    Watch out - a rather elegant DD's about! :D

Wot, no tassels? How tasteful is this do? Some of the boys on here are going to be very disappointed when the pics go out.

It was wonderful, applerose (and thank you for your post!). Utterly fantastic. Wendy pitched up at 5.50pm, I slipped on the dress then she got to work. An hour later (I know, a whole hour - well, she did have a challenge on her hands!) I had a very creaky neck (look up, look down, look at me etc, strewth she was bossy) but the transformation was complete. All I got from 'im indoors was "Very nice, Wife. " (high praise  ) then we posed for pics in the back garden and one or two have seen the evidence of the dressed-up DreamingDaisies.

We arrived at the Ipswich and Suffolk club just after 7, there was a jazz band playing in the garden and Pimms was being served. Our friends arrived, Lene spent about five minutes saying 'You look amazing! You look amazing!' whilst Tim and Steve both reckoned they were seeing me in a whole new way. Mr DD? Well, I think he beamed with pride but he says he was only smiling.

We went in for dinner. Two entree courses, Coronation Chicken followed by a sublime prawn cocktail, the main course was roast beef with all the trimmings and desert was a baked Alaska. Then came cheese and I treated myself to a number of wedges of brie. The service was fluent, the wine flowed (£30 a bottle though!) and a good time was had by all. We repeatedly toasted Her Majesty, then after dinner adjourned to the bar. We got home at about 12.45am.

Come Sunday we set off to see the friends we had seen the night before, and spent a remarkably pleasant time. We had Sunday lunch at The Hospital Arms in Colchester, followed by reading the papers and catching up with the recording of the flotilla. The Beeb mucked that up big time, the presenters were dreadful, the camera work not that wonderful but it mattered not, I was with three of the people I love most. I also forgot to take the pred, and haven't today. I can feel it. :( Never mind, it's better for me in the long run and that is what counts.

Now I'm home and resting. It was one of the best week-ends of my life to date. I loved every minute. DD

If your mobile does piccies then I can send one to you, Mig. You cannot see the detail of the dress (it was very heavily beaded) but you can see the glint of my never-worn-before-bought-in-a-Monsoon-sale-'cos-it-might-be-useful black velvet jacket which is embellished with embroidery and sequins on the collar, cuffs and pockets. As for himself, well, he spent an hour in front of his computer learning how to tie his bow tie. He looked so smart. (DD utters a gentle sigh). DD

DD I am so very pleased you had such a wonderful time, the meal sounded delicious and am glad you were able to meet with your friends again the day after.
